The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

P.S. Andre had quite a scare when he got pulled over on I-5 after only a few miles.

Do you carry your "I'll drive as fast as I want to pass" in your wallet?

Your right to carry in any state was signed into law by GWB while you were gone too.

Does the army restrict you from doing that while you are off base?

When that music started in the theater, my kids turned to me and just smiled. They are very familiar with the Vaughn Williams piece because I have a CD of several of his songs, and the 'Thomas Tallis' piece is on there. They had heard it a LOT before the movie, and even more since we got the soundtrack! Do you have the soundtrack? A lot of wonderful percussion; sounds like the Japanese Taiko drums and some other Polyneisian influences on some of the songs.

I can attest to the family not being much help with writing. I have a sister in law who knows how to stroke my ego, and a husband who thinks I should just chuck all my ideas, write for the market and 'come up with something that's never been done before...all that wizards and rings and quests and things is old hat...do something different!' Which ain't helpful, because there is nothing new under the sun...but you cant convince him of that....of course, he has never read as much as I have...

Great pic. Are any of those guardsmen/guardswomen FReepers? I'd bet some are.

Maybe someone you know distantly through work or something?

Well...I could always take a creative writing course of some sort here, and inflict my writing on the instructor. ;-)

And though it would still involve going THROUGH family, my bother who works in publishing might know of SOMEONE who'd be willing to offer some constructive criticism; though for that, I'd want to have something "real" to show 'em - a completed short story or a novel/novelette with some potential. I don't have that at the moment, but I will eventually.

there is nothing new under the sun...

Tell me about it. I get so frustrated with that at times! I feel so unoriginal most of the time...everything I think of is recycled in some way. Even when I *think* I've found something really unique...I often come across it later on and realize I'd just forgotten that particular book...

But I guess at least I can combine 'em in a new way!

Good morning!

Yep...Monday. But it's a short week!

*sigh* We have no water here until eleven. Please do NOT discuss things like rushing streams and splashing rivers, if'n ya know what I mean...

I don't have the sound track, just the DVD.
Should I get the sound track? Yes, I thought of you when the music came on :-)

I have always loved it too, though, and it usually puts me to mind of the English countryside, has often made me think of the Tolkien stories over the years.

I don't know, but one of our fellow Freepers (and poster in the Hobbit Hole) came home yesterday from Iraq! Hairofthedog, her husband ecurbh, and her brother Ramius are all Hobbit Hole Freepers and got to meet him and a group of his buddies and take them out for a little fun!

We're really proud of them!
