The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Wonderful pictures!

My mother went to DFW yesterday morning to welcome the troops, and with all that she said, *I* was almost in tears with pride for these men and women. I don't know if she got any pics or not *sigh* and she is at a gun show all day today so there is no finding out till tonight. If she got any, I will see what I can do to get 'em posted.

Great review, IMO. That is a good looking knife with some kewl accessories.

That proto HH knife I got in the auction is my daily carry now. The conventional blade is more useful than the tanto style of the original for my use. Still carry 'the original' on special ocassions.

Ack! Story's in trouble again...Mr. Wrong has redeemed himself kinda sorta, and he's really very intriguing! Kind of an Edward Rochester type now...rather blunt and brooding but ever so deep and interesting.

Durn...now what do I do??

Time for church. Maybe somethin' will come to me during the travel time.

Good morning!

Have Mr. Wright challenge Mr. Wrong in a duel to the death, and whoever's left standing gets the girl.

No? Well... you could... show him being mean to old ladies and dogs. Or just let her realize that Mr. Wright is so much better ;-)

Here is a really neat memento that they guys gave us last night... it's a heavy coin medallion, given out by visiting commanding officers to the soldiers. Smaagee managed to get an extra one to share with us, and I have scanned an image of it to show you.

They also gave some Saddam-money... I think they tipped the waitress with some of this too ;~D

It's pretty neat to hold this stuff... and try to picture the environment these guys were living in the last year... Was fascinating to hear the stories, ecurbh and ramius and I really enjoyed meeting them. :~D

I gave out my email address, and I am hoping to see some of the pictures they have to share when they get home and can forward them on.

I think that's fine, if you don't mind fixing that one typo while you're at it.

I think I'll post the reviews here first, just to give the folks here first look and first chance to take a shot at it. With luck, I'll have another review today.

Here is a really neat memento that they guys gave us last night... it's a heavy coin medallion, given out by visiting commanding officers to the soldiers.

It's called a "challenge coin", and most large units have them made up for small awards and as tokens of appreciation.

The "challenge" comes in at the bar, where someone slaps down his coin on the table. Everybody else has to produce their own coin. Those without coins have to pay for the drinks of the others. If everyone produces a coin, the original challenger gets to pay for everyone.

I will post anything I get. I hope to have some Thanksgiving day pics too.

Crystal and her mother and brother will be at my house and also Steve's brother Danny ("Ironman73") and his family. Don't know about Steve yet though.

I won the bet. The official time of toilet hugging...0935 am. The title went to Aaron just as I had suspected. Thanks you guys for a great time. The guys went on and on about it today and the others were kicking themselves for not coming out with us. You guys are awesome. We have some stuff we gotta do tonight, but we are hoping to get some time the next few days to meet your horses. Thanks again all.

Steve and crew.

P.S. Andre had quite a scare when he got pulled over on I-5 after only a few miles. Got a warning though.

Hey we had a great time.... most of us are too old for carousing very often (ouch) but it was such fun!

Sure glad you got home safe and we didn't have to bail anyone out!

We're available anytime for getting together to play with the horses! Have horses, have saddles and have camera ;~D
