The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...
See our freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net home page! ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

I had a friend growing up whose family had a cabin in the fishing camp where our summer cabin was. Her daddy worked at Hercules Powder Co. with mine. Her parents loved their drink, and her daddy used to make homebrewed wine. They had all kinds of drinking related plaques and pictures around the cabin, which was named, appropriately, "Sip'n" In addition to the 'Starkle' one, they had the obligatory, "No drinking before 5" clock, on which was nothing BUT 5s, so, of course, it was ALWAYS after 5.

Funny quote of the night, in re: the melee at the Pistons game tonight:

"I thought I was just going to a basketball game, when suddenly a Vibe awards broke out..."

I'm rooting, currently, for the couple that came in first last time.

I'm also partial to the long-distance relationship couple - they also treated each other very well.

Didn't much care for half-naked Gus bathing himself with snow.

There are just some things you wish you could "un-see", you know?

Good morning.

Today:

-Bank
-Old Residence, to do a bit of shouting about my deposit
-Haircut (I feel like a fargin' hippie)
-National Treasure
-or The Incredibles (I haven't quite decided: they start simultaneously,
xxxxxso I can decide literally at the last minute)
-and later, Polar Express in 3D IMAX with two cousins, two cousin's friends,
xxxxxand three cousin's friends' kids :)
-and waaay later, freerepublic.com (to misquote L.A. Story, "I'm shattered,
xxxxx but it's nothing that some sleep and a good stuning wouldn't cure...")

See you then!

Mornin' Seamus.

That's a picture of Cyd Charisse and Gene Kelly from the movie Bridgadoon (based on a Broadway musical).

Fiona (Cyd Charisse) sings a song about "Waitin' for my dearie..."

(I said walkin', I was wrong)

Mornin' folks.

Hadta pick up Jr. at the church at 7am. Youth group did an allnighter. They went skating and then did a scavenger hunt. Got back at the church at 6:30.

He's upstairs, supposed to be in the shower, 'cause he's got a 9am rehearsal. I'm gonna have to go stir things up...

Gots to finish the garage and get the leaves up out front this a.m. Rehearsals this afternoon.

I like that movie. It does have some of the silliest music ever in a musical...but there are a lotta good memories associated with it.

And I like that song!

Ugh...gotta get in 3000 words today, or in any case catch up between today and tomorrow. I only wrote a thousand yesterday, and I'm in a tough stage of the story...monotonous. Ick.
