Oh man! I ~wish~ I could move out there!
*sigh* But reality is reality and if I do move, it has to be where I have a job waiting and visits from thedad are do-able.
I've definitely decided I'll retire in the Pacific Northwest, but I have too much baggage to go clear cross-country. :-(
and baggage should be "baggage"....*grin*
Rosie, have you ever tried those "natural sunlight" lightbulbs for winter? I bought some Seventh Generation Natural Spectrum lightbulbs after OB's accident when he was so confined to the house and they seemed to help his overall well-being. Now I use them in the kitchen, where I spend a lot of time in the winter, and they do make gloomy days less gloomy. They are a little pricey, BUT, they last so much longer than regular lightbulbs that the cost averages out. You can get them at most health foods stores. Just a thought, we still have a lot of winter to go!
Great house, Ruthie! Looks like a lot of house for the money. Does it stay warm all the time in that part of Georgia?
WOW!! What a house!! I think y'all would like living in a slower paced place, Ruthy. I'll keep you in my prayers to make the right decision.
Hmmm. I think Trader Joe's sells Seventh Generation products. I'll have to look for those lightbulbs. Do you know if they make indoor floods for recessed lighting?
I didn't know they made lightbulbs like that...that would work in normal light fixtures. I know the natural foods store in my town carries Seventh Generation products...I'll have to check!
Thanks for the hint. Even if they were a little pricey, if they helped they'd be vey worth it.
Sigh...
So next semester one of the systems guys is moving to a research assistant position, and we're hiring back someone who used to work here for one semester. Problem is, that gives us three Windows techs and one Unix tech. So one of us gets switched over to Unix and I hope it's not me...
On the other hand, it'd be good, free job experience.
That's not a bad thing.
Great pictures!
ROFLOL, yer baaaaad.
Um, actually... I know Windows stuff enough. Getting thrown into the deep end of Unix, with people expecting me to have a clue, would be bad.
Yah, but sometimes getting thrown in the deep end is a good way to learn.
Just a thought.
I dunno much about Unix, but what I did learn was primarily from a temporary duty assignment where I showed up a day or two after the person who would have trained me had already left. Oops! But I did get to the point where I could get around in it and do basic stuff like changing permissions and adding programs or users - or hardware. It was useful in some ways, though at the time I wasn't too happy about it.
Moving?
You're right but I just honestly have no interest in learning more Unix than I know. I'd rather be really good with one OS family, than mediocre in a dozen.
Join the fun, over here:

Thanks
I do appreciate the prayers for making the right decision on moving.
Nothing has been put into motion yet, since we're still deciding on whether or not we should actually do it - but the possibility is there.
The house is definitely a great bang for the buck, so we'd have a MUCH lower mortgage than what I'm paying for now. Since we're a one income family, I've gotta find ways to shrink the overhead whenever and wherever possible.
It does get cold there, but not much snow. It's about an hour or so away from the N Carolina border.
What about a job? Is there one there for you?
Oh yes!
That's where the corporate headquarters are located. I could get a transfer and they pay for my moving expenses!
