Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
A new road or a secret gate...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Actually, I think there must have been one of those today on Central Expressway (US75) and another on Greenville (SH5), within a mile of each other. Lotsa abmulances and careflight helicopters. Greenville (3 lanes and a turn lane) was shut down.... and that is my ALTERNATE ROUTE. Central was a 4 lane parking lot. *sigh* Without the Nazgul, we ~would~ have made it to Taekwondo on time. As it was, we drove by with 10 minutes of classtime left. We just went on home at that point.
On the flip side, we saw Spiderman 2 today and the dollar theater. It's half price Tuesday.... Yes, 50 cent day!
LOL, elf-boy came out of the theater doing "spidey" cartwheels, and crawling around on all fours.

You're evil for having mentioned that game.
I played it some at work today, and I'm well and truly hooked.
I knew I was beyond help when I found myself looking for patterns on a tile floor today...

PE and I watched it. WOW! I am amazed at the intuitiveness and courage it took these guys to pull it off. I feel horrile that it ended so badly for most of them.

does Matthew know about the Bataan Death March?...Not sure, but that might be a tad intense for one of Matthew's age. At least, if they spend any time on the details of it.
A friend of my parents was in the Death March; carried a buddy for two days, even after he was sure the buddy was dead cause he knew that if he put his friend down the Japanese soldiers would bayonet him. He didn't want there to be any question that his friend was dead first. Sil had nightmares to the end of his life about that. Yeah, pretty intense.

Sil has my respect...God bless him...
I first read about the Death March when I was 7... really made me appreciate the sacrifices of those who had served before... we have no idea...

I guess I learned about it when I was about Matthew's age, come to think of it. Sil and Dottie had lost a daughter to a drunk driver; I and another daughter of theirs, both of us about 7yrs. old, witnessed it, but I don't remember anything about it now. Sil had a minor breakdown then, but really lost it when, three years later, that daughter who was a friend of mine died of leukemia. They had moved by that time, so I hadn't seen her in a couple of years. He was out of it for several months, mixing up the two daughters deaths with the deaths of his buddies on the March. My Mama explained to me why it had affected him in that way. He came back around, but was never really the same. He was a strong man, but folks can only take so much.
I remember him from before the deaths of his daughters as a smiling, fun loving man, and I'm glad I have that memory.

Check this out. We got one last suprise yesterday while we were getting ready to leave. James Gandolfini, and Tony Sirico of the Sopranos stopped by to visit. They were very cool. They hung out and joked around with us for several hours before moving on to the next camp.

We leave today for the port, then catch a plane very late tommorrow (Thursday), or possibly in the wee hours of Friday morning. If all goes as planned I should be there mid to late afternoon Friday. However we all know how military planning goes. I think we are now flying into McChord again also. I have your # and I will call you soon as I know anything certain. Crystal will be mailing you that package we talked about today also, so it should be there Friday or Saturday. Thanks again. Talk to you soon.
To: smaagee
Post it again, it's not showing up.
To: smaagee
Off to bed. Have Crystal keep me updated. Love Always, Dad

James Gandolfini is exciting enough, but Pauly Walnuts ...! I might swoon! The hair! The track suit! That wild look in his eyes! Ha-cha-cha! Ha-cha-cha!
<grinning>
Travel safe, and know that you are in our thoughts.
