The Hobbit Hole XVII - A new road or a secret gate...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

A new road or a secret gate...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

For any of you geeks who do not yet have a USB thumb drive, here's one you might consider. It's a real, live ballpoint with a 256MB drive in the top. I don't know about the quality of the pen, but it looks fairly classy. $80 street price.

Uhhhhh...want! Want much!

That is one of the coolest things I've ever seen! Combines things my pen geek tendencies lust over AND my standard geek tendencies...

Have fun loading programs tonight! Hope you're able to get on-line soon.

My boss and his boss had a long discussion this afternoon, and unconfirmed rumor has it they were discussing giving us more toolz to use with our PDAs...like wireless and more memory. If that comes true, I'm gonna be VEY excited, to say the least.

Though I still want a keyboard more than wireless. If I had extra money, I'd spring for it myself and just hope to be reiumbursed someday without truly expecting it.

Hooray! Just home from grocery shopping. I spent a lot, but I have enough to last me for WEEKS so long as I use frozen veggies instead of fresh. I've been using mostly frozen lately since cold raw veggies aren't nearly as appealing to me when it's freezing outside (12 degrees this morning). Plus they're cheaper...so that's a bonus, too!

I got a whole turkey breast in addition to my regular meat. They're so cheap at the moment I couldn't resist, and I'm almost wishing I had picked up two. It'll take a coupla hours to roast, but then I'll have turkey enough to last me a long time, and I can freeze some of it for later lunches.

I love it when the fridge and freezer is full...such a good feeling!

Sounds great! I should have you come out here so you could do the shopping for me.

A friend and I are planning to be irresponsible slackers and spend two hours at the movies tonight - going to see "The Incredibles". Then home, and either get connected to the internet and load programs, or reload my files and do some writing. Yay!

I gotta go see that movie soon...

I think the older of the siblings went last night. I'll probably go this weekend - if I hit the matinee it'll be cheap, and I can drag my littlest sis along, too.

Student discount means I can see a non-matinee movie for $6... matinees are $5, so no real difference.

I was moaning about needing bothers around so I'd have an excuse to see movies like that and my friend said she wanted to see it too... so we're going. Probably. There's not a showing at the time we wanted so I'll have to talk her into it.

See you later... oh, you did hear that all 8500 words of my NaNo story are still existant? Woo-hoo!

Ours are normally $6, matinees are $4...but with several people, it does add up.

I guess I'm happy it's cheap here, but the theater isn't that great, so it kinda evens out. Lousy sound, small screens, no buying tickets ahead of time for hot movies.

Congrats on the words still being there! I'm feeling a wee bit better about my story, mostly because Mr. Right became Mr. She Thinks is Right, while the real Mr. Right is someone she thinks annoying at the moment. I'll bring her around.

Wasn't planning on introducing him this soon, but what happens happens, I guess.

Well, we're back from town. We ~finally~ went and got Hair's name changed, got her a new driver's license, and did the merge bank accounts thing. Only took us 5 months to get around to it. Still have to consolidate car insurance, but that can wait until tomorrow.

Also stopped by the pet store for cat food, and ended up also getting dog toys and a new betta fish (an additional one, not a replacement).

Oh, and picked up my car from the repair place. It seems to run OK, once it gets started - the repair guys jury-rigged a not-quite-suitable hose on there so it'll run. Still searching wrecking yards on the internet for the part it needs. Found one place that said they had 4 '89 Grand Ams... but of course, none of those have the right engine model.

You know ... I work with these things all the time ... supporting them is what I do.

What do you have, the X5 or the X3?
