Word For The Day, Wednesday, November 3, 2004

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

schadenfreude \SHAHD-n-froy-duh\, noun:

1. A malicious satisfaction in the misfortunes of others.

If self-replicating e-commerce baby tycoons get on your nerves, it's schadenfreude time. It's true that the Nasdaq rebounded after its staggering loss Tuesday. Nonetheless, what AP described as "the most volatile day ever for U.S. stocks" left a distinctly bearish aftertaste.
--"Market Motion Sickness." The Industry Standard's Media Grok, April 5, 2000

Etymology: German, from Schaden, damage + Freude, joy. It is often capitalized, as it is in German.

I am thinking positive. But the glee just cannot burst forth until I hear them words...:)

I read somewhere one of Kerry's daughters was seen crying in a doorway. Gosh, I wish someone snapped a photo. I'd make it the background on my office computer.

Oh shoot, I couldn't find it again.

It's a pic of he and his daughter and they look like the roof just fell on them.

For extra credit, I'd like to submit the following DUmbass thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1293955#1294249

Those offended by the "f-word" might want to skip this thread. ;)

Too, too funny! Now I have the dilemma of deciding to which people I shall be gracious, and which ones get their heads stomped on without mercy.

It was a blowout!!!!! Time for real governmental change and Daschle is deeply saddend b/c he is unemployed. Miguel Estrada to the Supreme Court and Clarence Thomas or Scalia for Chief Justice.

Schadenfreude. This word smacks of Daschle and makes him deeply saddened. Which is delightful to the rest of us.
