Low caste leader proclaims Christ in India
India (MNN) -- The leader of a low caste untouchable group in India has professed Christ and is now encouraging millions to convert.
JESUS FOR INDIA. Rochunga Pudaite tells us about Tikam Singh. "Tikam Singh is an untouchable outcast in India and he's the leader and has 30-million following (him). Tikam Singh received the Lord as Savior." Singh was baptized two months ago and this month held a rally in India where he encouraged thousands in attendance to seek Christ.
Up to 20,000 people attended the rally in Utter Pradesh. Flooding prohibited many from participating as more than 100,000 were expected.
500 people made commitments to Christ during the rally. Pudaite says this isn't the only rally Singh has planned. "He wants to hold rallies like this one month after another so that all the 300-million outcast Hindus will become followers of Jesus Christ."

I am sure Hinduism is a fine religion (I really don't know much about about it) but that caste system always really annoyed me.
Is the caste system built into hinduism?
The caste system, per say, wasn't originally based on race or colour, but on occupation. And since occupations can change with the generations, so could caste, sometimes within the same generation itself. A supporting fact is Krishna, one of the pivotal gods in the Hindu pantheon, was from a community generally seen as oppressed.
The discriminatory angle came much later on in history. That's why the Vedas and the Puranas, some of the oldest philosophical and theological works in the world(circa 2000 BC), has nothing mentioned in it about caste.
My explanation is based on the limited facts I know. So, clarification will help if available.
