Vote Republican. It would be one thing if he distanced himself from his party, but he has not endorsed the President. This is a test for our nation and as "conservative" as Taylor may appear, the entire Democrat party needs to be punished for what they are doing to this country. Vote Republican, a straight ticket.

voting for a democrat means you support abortion and gun control. it's in the platform that they all sign on to when they say they're democrats.

In special order speeches--after spending some time supporting the troops and some things that are conservative, he spends the rest of the time trashing the Republican leadership. Where is Mike Parker when we need him?

It seems they are both pro-life.

Taylor only gets a 70 from the ACU though, and, obviously, he is a Democrat.

Sorry fanatics --- you vote for the PERSON not the PARTY!

There are plenty of putrid "republicans" out there for the same reason we have criminals like clinton/kennedy in office - too lazy to think!

I would much prefer an honest democrat over The Manchurian Candidate McCain or the crooked and dishonest orin hatch!

Well, I suspect his party left him. If I lived in Mississippi, I would be willing to offer him a handshake and a vote and welcome him to the party. If he doesn't produce in his next term, you can join with the Dems and vote him out.

Ha! A actual thread that I can post something useful! I vote in Gene Taylor's district and I have never voted for him. Why? He claims to be a conservative and goes with the conservative vote when the vote isn't really on the line. But on a close vote, expect him to go with the democRATS.

The reason he portrays himself as a conservative is because this district is VERY conservative. But if he REALLY cared about conservative issues, he would switch to the Republican Party to give us better numbers. He is trying to appeal to both sides and it is apparently working, by claiming to be a conservative democRAT.

There is no need to vote for him just because he appears to be a conservative democRAT. Why vote for a conservative democRAT when there are always have been qualified conservative Republicans running against him. In fairness to him, he is in reality more conservative than the average democRAT, but not as conservative as the average Republican. The problem is that in this district, an incumbent is pretty much there for life unless he really screws up and makes the voters mad. So far he hasn't done that as long as he tries to appear conservative.

In Mississippi, there is no need for him to support Bush because Mississippi is a safe state for Bush. And he is remaining out of the picture so as to not tick off his fellow democRATS. But, like I said, if he was really conservative and cared about conservative ideas, he would back Bush to help out in other areas of the country and switch parties. We need a bigger majority in the House.

Speaking of a bigger majority in the House, we REALLY need a bigger majority in the Senate. Sorry for running a rabbit a while here, but the Senate is the important side when considering who will be approving Bush's Supreme Court Nominees. I believe Bush will win and will have the opportunity to appoint a few justices. But having a clear majority in the Senate will help that go a lot smoother. Sorry about running that rabbit.....I'm through now.

* Voted NO on prohibiting needle exchange & medical marijuana in DC. (Oct 1999)

My bad. He's still a dem. On this issue alone I would take him down.

I'll never forget what a horse's rear Gene Taylor was at the Waco hearings. I taped them and watched them intently. Waco was a Clinton scandal in which Janet Reno sent in tanks to "rescue children". They and their parents burned to death.

At first Gene's questions and some of his reactions to others' questions didn't make any sense. He was riled that anyone would dare question the motives of the "good old boys" in the ATF who started the Waco siege. Then I realized that he was such a cog in the federal system that he felt personally threatened by some of the hard questioning.

I would vote against him. (Wicker is my Congressman in Desoto county.)

I'd say ask yourself how can you trust someone that would stay in the Democrat (Socialist) party after all the lies, fraud, cheating, etc they've pulled over the last few years?

By staying a Democrat he either agrees with them or cares more about keeping his job than he does about what's good for your state and America. The only way I could ever vote for a Dem is if he/she came out against the Democrat leadership and/or endorsed Bush.

I'm voting straight "R" from now on, there's too much at stake.

IMHO Taylor should and could switch parties. I don't know
why he won't. If any opponent ever gets close to beating
him he probably will. Right now I think he gets his
cookies by pretending to be Mr Independent Renegade.
That being said I will still trade you a Bennie Thompson for a Gene Taylor
ANYTIME.

Gene Taylor and John Edwards have the same haircut.

That should be reason enough to vote against him.

Not even close, vote for state Rep. Mike Lott. I am glad the GOP got a real candidate to oppose Taylor this time.
