Today was a wonderful day. I got a chance to talk with a college student from massachusetts who was planning on voting for kerry. as you might have figured she knew NOTHING about politics or what Kerry's "plan" were. After a short talk i either change her mind or at the very least got her thinking for once. Once back at the office i got attacked by a libertarian. Working around all union libs i'm use to this. the guy is SO HAPPY that our soldiers are getting killed. he sounded like mikie moores little butt boy spitting out lies and anti-american crap. i thought libertarians were for the defense of our country. isn't that what boortz is for? please someone fill me in.

Boortz IS for defending the country, yes. And he was even attacked by members of his own party, they were petitioning for him to not speak at the Libertarian National Convention because of his support for the Iraq war.

Why? No clue. Supposedly they interpret the Constitution to the letter, but for some reason they forget about the "provide for the commond defense" part.

They are for a lot of liberal social idealogies, but are very, very conservative in the financial arena. Libertarians are some of the first to approve of abortion, but also approve of the National Sales Tax. Go figure.

I suspect your 'libertarian' is a bit uneducated and thinks that 'libertarianism' is the 'long name' for liberalism.

Libertarians are limited government, strict constructionists - they're alot closer to Republicans.

They are closer to Republicans without the church sermonizing and moralistic positioning. Your life, you live it, you screw it up, it's your fault.

I really like Larry Elder and Neil Boortz

The LP got hi-jacked by the anti-war pacifists. The rest of us libertarians are like Boortz. While logically, they have a point... the real world does not operate off that logic.

If your neighbors house is burning down, you go put out the flames BEFORE the fire takes your house too. You do not wait until your rafters are starting to char. If your neighbor was purposefully burning his house down, or otherwise did not want your interference, you can make the proper restitution later.

From what I've read on this site, Libertarians seem to be drug addicts/advocates who like to take the names of dead patriots in sacrilege and many often boast of voting Democrats at election time. (usually over drug issues)

I consider them more drug addicted anarchist than anything.
That is how I've read them over time.

I've read liberal enemy sites to see what they post and you'll find Libertarians posting their dogma and drug lust there as well.

They are not impressive, nor come off as anything but liberal to me.

Libertarians are Socialists. Having watched the 3rd party debate, it was a classic illustration of Socialism at work.

Many Libertarians are Globalists.

Only as far as it extends to free market capitalism. Not official government policy.

If you don't like that amount of freedom, what socialist policies would you put in place?

How is it liberal, by today's definition, to oppose big nanny government? If you still need a mommy and daddy to decide your every move, maybe you should not have left home.

The Libertarian Party is opposing the War in Iraq. Boortz and the Ls have parted ways at least on that issue. Most of my Libertarian-leaning friends either oppose the war in iraq or have decided to join the Constitutionalist Party (because they won't be Republicans).

http://www.mises.org/liberal.asp

"The program of liberalism, therefore, if condensed into a single word, would have to read: property, that is, private ownership of the means of production... All the other demands of liberalism result from his fundamental demand."

I'll add that liberalism is the body of thought which grew out of the renaissance. It replaced The Divine Right of Kings with Constitutionally restrained republics and pre-capitalist modes of production with the market economy.

Folks who use liberal as a slur would do well to consider the longer use of the word.

The Constitutionalist Party was hijacked by Communists.

I'm not addicted to drugs, unless you count caffeine. In fact, caffeine is the only 'drug' I use. About 4 cups a day to be exact.

Using your convoluted logic, I guess we could also say that FR conservatives are sex-obsessed and repressed ninnies who like to be in everyone's business 24/7?
