Advantages of Eudora (or other non-Microsoft email client) over OE?
self

Posted on 10/11/2004 4:45:33 AM PDT by rudy45

What are the advantages and disadvantages of moving to a non-Microsoft email client such as Eudora? What other options do you recommend?

I already have abandoned IE in favor of Mozilla.

Thanks.

I have never used OE, but have heard that it opens your e-mail in order to provide a preview. This provides an opening for virii, trojans, etc. Thunderbird seems to be safer in that regard.

Yes, OE gives a "preview pane" (which can be disabled). I just looked up Thunderbird, and it's by the same people who make Mozilla. I will give it a try.

Thanks, I really appreciate the people here, because they are so helpful in everything from guns to computers LOL

All my email is web-based (through school, ISP, and a yahoo email account). I think if I had to choose a program, I'd go with thunderbird. I know I'd never trust Outlook express to read or send my email.

If you are using Mozilla then it already has a mail client bundled with it. You could use that instead of installing Eudora or some other.

Thanks.

Another question: right now, when I use OE, my Microsoft Office components bring it up when I do a "file/send" from one of the Office applications. If I switch to a non OE mail client (or use the one with Mozilla), how will I be affected? Can I tell the Office application to use the non OE mail client?

Thanks.

Unfortunately, I think not. The same issue arises when you are in Outlook and click on a web link. It will open up IE no matter what you have selected for your default browser.
Why? BIW. Because It's Windows.
