My mom was stunned that he did such a thing. I wonder how many people watching actually knew about Cheney's daughter, although my mom knew about it.

I thought everyone knew that. Didn't he get a question about his daughter in the 2000 VP debate?

Edwards was out of bounds on this one -- an extremely low rent remark.
To: njsketch
Precisely. Cheney response was so classy. Some things are sacred, like the love of a father and daughter. Edwards is a compete a$$hole.

Oh please...everyone knows she's gay. Cheney handled it with class and as a parent.

This has been known for quite some time. Incidentally, Liberace and Rock Hudson were gay, too.

It's common knowledge, but classless on John-Boy's part. Pandering to the gay vote, you know. Cheney handled it very well.

I walked back into the room when Cheney was saying somehting like: Thank you for saying nice things about my family. And then Edwards smiled and nodded his head. I thought Cheney was being sarcastic. Was I right?
To: njsketch
I thought it was very mean spirited.
To: njsketch
Common knowledge for at least 4 years now...
To: njsketch
Not sure this was a big secret. I believe that VP Cheney had said as much in an event a couple of months back-- and I think he actually alluded to it in his response just prior to Edwards... but I could be wrong.
I had no problem with the way that Edwards handled that particular statement, and it didn't look like Cheney did either.

He didn't out anyone. It's common knowledg that Cheney has a lesbian daughter. They even have campaigned together.
That remark by Edwards shocked me. Even I didn't think he was that sleazy. What a heartless scumbag.
To: njsketch
The smarmy way he discussed it hurt Edwards.
Very bad.

You're right. It was a smear attempt. It doesn't matter that it is no secret, what mattered is that Edwards wanted to get the word out to all the people that didn't know. Cheney handled it well, but that's not the point. Edwards was outing her for the sake of all the people who hadn't heard, and reminding everyone who'd forgotten.
What a creep. If a Republican said something like, "oh, by the way, we're proud of you're homosexual daughter," the media would crucify him.

What is so disgusting is that Edwards did it, using Cheney's daughter, to score political points by reminding everyone that he has a gay daughter. Edwards is a totally sickening slimeball ambulance-chasing lawyer resembling a very large turd.
