Deadwards was polling below 40% against a who-is-it candidate.

He has a 35% approval rating in NC. He decided not to run before Kerry selected him. He wouldn't have been able to raise $10.00.

Edwards is a joke in NC except for certain neighborhoods in Wilmington, Raleigh, Greensboro, Winston, Charlotte and most of Asheville.

I have heard something like that. Edwards was consistantly polling less than 50%, and in some polls he was down to 43%. He campaigned as a moderate in 1998, but has voted leftist liberal. Also, he's spent more time in other states than in North Carolina. While the voters like his hair and his smile, they don't like his record.

My brother-in-law moved to NC a couple of years ago when he retired. He told me Edwards is not popular there and probably would not get re-elected if he ran.

running for vp was the only viable way to keep his political career alive, other than running for dogcatcher.

TarHeel Checking In:

The former Lauch Faircloth seat was not going to be held again by Edwards in a re-election bid. It will probably stay Demo with Bowles (sadly).

NC is weird that way. It gives us Jesse! and it gives us Easely (and Hunt).

Edwards was a fluke win last time in NC, no way he'll get re-elected... he's a lame duck at the Senate level.

We have resented him ever since he was elected here and immediately began going to places like New Hampshire and Iowa to run for president. He literally went from being elected to the senate to running for president. He would have lost badly if he had run for re-election. Plus, he voted with Ted Kennedy almost across the board. That doesn't play well here in North Carolina.

I grew up around the corner from Edwards. All I can say is, let Bush's numbers here in NC answer that question (Kerry is losing here).

From what I can tell he wouldn't have had a chance. I'm not sure he ever really was a senator from here, he gets paid and doesn't even show up for work.

He hasn't been a senator for 6 years, he hasn't worked for over a year yet he calls himself working, dah.

Yes, it's true. The people of NC do not like him. They say he did absolutely nothing as a Senator....they know he just used Senate job as a stepping stone to become Pres. HE IS A LOSER!! plus he's a girlie-man.
