(Chris Matthews SAID)Cheney Edwards Met prior to tonight
Chris Mathews Show on MSNBC | Oct 5, 2004 | Chris Mathews

Chris Mathews just stated that Cheney and Edwards have met prior to tonight Evidently they met at a prayer breakfast. The only reference I can find to this might be this link http://edwards.senate.gov/press/prayer_breakfast_2002.html

I believe there were many hundreds of people at that prayer breakfast--it is possible for them to have both been at the event without ever even laying eyes on each other--let alone "meeting". Show me a picture of the two men together, and I will say you may have something---otherwise--this just sounds like a repeat of what they posted over at DU in a futile effort to discredit Cheney.

They can spin this all they want. The damage has already been done. What American will remember is "the first time I met you was tonight".

Wasn't Cheney talking about meeting Edwards on the Senate floor?

Exactly. Even if they had met 30 times on the floor, it was still a GREAT line.

I think one of the most effective tactics President Bush can utilize Friday is to call Kerry "the Senator from Massachusetts"

It reminds people that he's a NE liberal from the most lib state in the union... Saying my opponent doesn't work when the whole country knows who his opponent is.

Problem is MSM media sees this:
LLoyd Benson : democrat
Dick Cheney: evil Republican.

The MSM will TRY to spin this, no question. We will see how far they take it though.

What's the difference if they met once before? Cheney's point would then be the same, only sound a little different. "In 4 years in the Senate, I've met you just once before tonight---at a prayer breakfast."

There is absolutely NO PROOF THAT CHENEY ATTENDED THE PRAYER BREAKFAST.

MATTHEWS SAID they met, (according to the poster, I haven't even seen any FReeper post confirming his statement), but HE DID NOT SAY WHERE.

Please reread what was posted VERY CAREFULLY. The IMPRESSION the post created, is NOT BASED ON ANY VERIFIABLE FACTS.

"Chris Mathews just stated that Cheney and Edwards have met prior to tonight Evidently they met at a prayer breakfast. The only reference I can find to this might be this link http://edwards.senate.gov/press/prayer_breakfast_2002.html"

The link just takes you to a speech given by Edwards to introduce the President at a prayer breakfast. THAT'S IT! There is NOT THE SLIGHTEST INDICATION THAT CHENEY EVEN ATTENDED IT.

This is just a RED HERRING, TO COUNTERACT CHENEY'S ZINGER.

And I question why a FReeper would make the title of the post as FACT, even though from the post itself it's clear that there is NO SUPPORTING EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER for this statement. It was the Admin Moderator who added the "Chris Matthews SAID" part.

If the President was there, then you can just about guarantee that the VP was not. IIRC, they have rarely been together since 9/11.

Exactly. So why post a screaming headline in Breaking News: "Cheney Edwards Met prior to tonight".

At a prayer meeting? Ha. Sure seems like he could have maybe actually went to the chamber to vote on something once in a while.

His own state knows he was a waste. He was not going to be re-elected to his senate seat so he just never showed up.

My Fault big time for the wording of the post. I was in a hurry and should have thought through the wording a little more carefully. Please accept my apologies.
I appreciate the moderator for fixing it a little. I wanted to post it so we could get ahead in researching the facts. I took what was said, did a quick search and posted. Next time I will re-read for clarity.

That Mrs. Edwards is not only as big as a tank, she's also as pushy as one.

My point is that as a FReeper, I expect you to be more discenring. ;)

When MSM says something, the appropriate first reaction: "It's a lie, can I disprove it quickly", then "where is the proof?" then "maybe it's true".

From your post, I gathered that Matthews did NOT say WHERE he claimed that Cheney and Edwards met, right?

My impression was that CM just CLAIMED they had met, then you, on your own, doing a quick research went to Edwards' site, and found that he gave the intro for Pres Bush at a prayer breakfast, and jumped to conclusion, that is where Cheney and Edwards have met.

If my impression is wrong, please correct it, otherwise just be more sceptical when any of the "usual suspects" make any claims.

Chris Mathews stated: "Just in...it appears Cheney and Edwards did meet prior at a prayer breakfast in Washington." and then he went back to looking for another zinger to take the zing out of.

Ah, so!

Chris Matthews actually brought up the prayer breakfast!

Now I understand your post more.

But, as I said, I got a different impression.

At "best" they both attended the same prayer breakfast, where you don't go around introducing everyone to everyone, and as someone posted it earlier, if the President was there, and that's whom Edwards was introducing, it's almost certain Cheney wasn't attending it.

You are forgiven. ;) Although you did cause some consternation, in "how could you do this"?

That'll teach you to believe anyone part of the MSM in the future. :)

Using that logic, every swift boat vet that met Kerry but wasn't on his boat had the right to talk about his "service".

Brilliant, but largely lost on the Rats!

Matthews should be aware that 'meeting' someone requires a bit more than a hand shake three years prior.

Conversation and a exchange of opinions might help as well. Something that usually doesn't happen at a Prayer Breakfast. Unless that person is sitting opposite or beside you.

Matthews is such a tool!

Jack.
