The Hobbit Hole XVI - Still round the corner there may wait...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner there may wait...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

PE and I have talked about doing that. The native grass around here is Buffalo grass. I think we are goign to actually try seeding it after the last frost.

Just had an extended conversation with the wife. We're going to sit down with Jr. over dinner tonite and talk this through.

We're at the point where we think our only option ~if he doesn't get his act together~ is to go the homeschool route.

That means football is over...forever...and I think he knows that. In fact, part of me thinks that he "knew" he wouldn't make it anyway and he deliberately set himself up to fail.

Luke, on the other hand, has informed us that "I'm going to stay in pre-school through the alphabet, then I'm going back to Rainbow Station" (the daycare).

Heheheh...the other day, I was in the kitchen and Steve was visiting with me while I made up a dessert for myself. A spoonful of cocoa powder, a big glop of peanut butter, an bit of maltilol syrup and a packet of Splenda. Melted it in the microwave and stirred in a bit of raw oatmeal.

I turned to Steve and said "This is my new dessert invention...I call it 'Halfacupa Crap'."

After 18 years together...it's gratifying that I can still get him to shoot coffee out his nose.

We've told him all that stuff until I wanna puke. Took him to the Virginia Tech website, showed him the requirements. Pointed out the differences in our families between those of us who went to college and those who didn't. It just doesn't register...

In other news, we're finally getting started on the work to repair the other upstairs bathroom. Best part of that is that he should be able to finish before Nana comes home.

Also, last week, Steve bought these big raw brats, you know? Big raw sausages. He was sticking them in the freezer and I was waiting for him to get out of the way so I could put the milk in the fridge when I noticed the brand name.

All I did was point to the brand name and blink at him with a straight face. He nearly fell over laughing. He's taken them to work with him and says he laughs every time he thinks about it.

No, but he's reliable. He and his wife moved here from Eastern Europe (Romania maybe?). Came here with nothing and our church gave them a start. He works there on the custodial staff.

He doesn't have the American handyman work "ethic."

Thanks Jen.

You know it's weird, but I think you'll understand. There's a lot of crap going on for us right now.

But the only thing really causing me ~anxiety~ is the election.

Does anyone know anything about macs? Joshua turned off all the extensions and I can't for the life of me get them turned back on, even though I went to the extension manager, clicked on all of them to turn them on and then rebooted.
