The Hobbit Hole XVI - Still round the corner there may wait...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner there may wait...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Poor Ramius!

Sorry to hear your feeling sick. But good news! Tomorrow is Friday and you'll be homeward bound!

Was last night quieter than the night before or did you get any more "Intruder Alerts"?

yuh know... probably the times I've seen Marines the most filthy was after they'd been crawling around in the ceilings of 50 year old CP buildings installing LAN cable...

I believe it!

I'm sure I've breathed in my fair share of asbestos and such, too. We were never quite sure WHAT we were dealing with in some o' those old buildings...

I completely agree about the .270. It's just a darn nice flat and fast round. Good for many things, except maybe the really big game. Not for bear, I wouldn't think, but plenty for blacktails, whitetails, maybe even elk. Elk might be pushing the limit a little.

What's this about the model 70 changing back to something akin to the pre-64 stuff?

.270 can kill elk or black bear... the key is shot placement... that comes from practiced marksmanship... and patience to wait for the shot...

brown or griz and big boar (300+ lbs) just have too much meat and bone between fur and vitals

I've been here for only half an hour and I feel better already.

My nephew stayed home from school today and managed to lose the remote control to my TV. I was in a royally bad mood when I got here, but now I feel a million times better.

Even though I'm stuck watching Full House with Becky. *rolls eyes*

I've looked everywhere for the durned thing and can't find it. He says he left it on the dresser, but Alyson prolly took it and who knows where it could be now. I've even checked in the fridge! LOL!

Heh... Have I mentioned I'm glad I don't run cable?

The one significant cabling task I've ever had, was installing thin Ethernet cable for the small company I worked for. There was the possibility the network would have to carry Secret info, so the security requirements decreed that all cabling had to be visible.

We hung all the cabling on hooks from the ceiling... drilled holes through the walls between offices and pushed through PVC pipes, then ran the cable through the pipe. Easy!

Didn't get any more intrusions... he seems to have got the message.

It was a *major* headache though... because when it started to develop that day, one of my guys interrupted a meeting I was having with with our SOX audit consultants in order to give me the "news". The subject of the meeting? Well... network security of course... [sigh] this created a whole host of new documentation of this "event" that I had to go over with them today. [sigh]

Timing is, in fact, everything.

Sounds like a plan to me.

I still, however, refuse to be the first one to cross over your property line!

Oh brother!

Could the timing have possibly been worse?

Wait. Don't answer that. ;-D

Oct. 29 is closing. I'm planning on moving everything I can carload by carload and then hire Two Guys and a Truck to move the heavy stuff.

It looked like h*ll... but anyone could walk the cable from one end of the building to the other and easily see that there were no taps on it...

Seems like a given, that each of the attendees at shootmoot should get the opportunity to kill something with a rifle.

I have an idea... let's have somebody advertise over on DU that there will be a "Peace Picnic" on such and such a date... with free tofu... at such a such an address in MO...

Or, would that violate some sort of "game baiting" rule in Missouri? I know that Washington's fish&game dept frowns on baiting.
