The Hobbit Hole XVI - Still round the corner there may wait...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner there may wait...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Twisted his ankle playing basketball. It was so blown-out looking I was sure it was broken. We we to the ER Monday and the said it wasn't broken (PTL) but that it was pretty badly sprained. Put him in a brace, gave him crutches, no pressure for two days. Today he can start applying pressure.

He plays basketball several times a week with the guys he works with. They used to play against just whoever happened to be at the park..and Steve kept coming home bloody...I mean, totally beat-up looking...blood all over his shirt. Come to find out that he was playing against gang members! They were coming down on him with their elbows and kneeing him, purposefully injuring him and he just thought that's how it went. He's so kind-hearted that he can't imagine that someone out there would hurt him just because.

I was pretty unhappy, to say the least.

I told him "If they don't have a job, don't play against them." and he agreed. He hasn't been hurt since, except for this sprained ankle, which was no one else's fault.

But you have to know which "that" has to come out!

And get the skin offa the thing.

And I'm happy to cook the meat, but I'd rather avoid THAT stage of things...

Some guys were telling me on another thread that the Marines sometimes use a rifle based on the Remington 700 for snipers...if so, I wonder what caliber choices are favored.

Speaking of deer hunting.

most USMC sniper rifles are Rem 700s... and most are chambered for .308... you will find some .300 WinMag for "special occaisions"...

I know the gurus at Quantico have been workin' on a 6.5 x.308... proving to be lethal in an AR-15 configuration... don't know if they are using it in the bolt guns...
