This almost resembles an M1 Carbine being used as a sniper rifle. But I know that can't be. Anyone know what type of rifle this is?

yup, and what ever he is scoping must be eleveated and he has no higher ledge to rest it on.... even if i were just scoping the target. a still scope sight is better then a shakey one. So at least we know neither of us are crazy.

Ha d the M-14 on Subs. Great weapon. Can knock stuff down to about as far as you can see with steel. Still prefer my 338 Mag.

yeah, played with them on the Nimitz with the marines and ships company during qualifications and basically when ever they would allow close in defensive practice. Still think it is one of the more powerful ones out there, but I do have a special place in my heart for the remington 700 series, they are in general hard to beat for a good all around long range long arm. Unless of course you can get your hands of those beautiful .50 cal sniper rifles that the seals use. :) But then again if I had 8000$ lying around I would probably be spending it on something else. :)

It's just a long shot from the front right quarter to make it look smaller. Just an M1A in a M14 stock........:o)

Selector is gone thus the hole near back of receiver....

Stay safe !

The shooter is more than likely a designated rifleman/marksman vs a specific speciality/AFSC/MOS of "sniper".

Mini-14, I agree. Would make sense as the ammo is the same as the M-16 (.223 cal/5.56mm). Go to www.Cabelas.com and put XE-210481 into the key word search.

I'll pull a Kerry and flip-flop here. You're right, it's the M14.

I checked the site again---the M-21 was decended from the M-14.

(it helps to use my 'puter screen glasses when reading!)

Caliber: 7.62x51mm NATO (.308 Win.)
Capacity: 20 or 5 round detachable box magazine
Mechanism: Rotating bolt, gas operated, air cooled,
semi-automatic magazine fed rifle
Weight: 11.25 lbs (5.11kg)
Length: 44.1" (112cm)
Barrel: Match Grade 22 inches 1:10 RH twist
Trigger Pull: Specially tuned 4 1/2 pound match
two-stage military trigger
Sight: Redfield/Leatherwood 3-9x Automatic Ranging Telescope (ART)
Max Effective Range: 900 yards (822m)

The M21 is esentially a modified M14 National Match rifle. The earlier versions (XM21) had a specially selected walnut stock, but this changed with the M21 to a fiberglass stock, often camoflaged. The XM21 began to be fielded in the second half of 1969 and remained the U.S. Army's primary Sniper Weapon System until it began to be replaced by the M24 SWS in 1988. Some National Guard units and even a few active duty units (The OPFOR at JRTC for example) still use the M21. The M21 is a very pratical sniper weapon maintaining acceptable accuracy out to about 700 meters. Besides the problem that it is semi-auto and sends brass flying, the M21 was, and still is, a very capable military sniper rifle. The 10th SFG, in conjuntion with the U.S. Navy SEALs has developed an improved version of the M21 known as the M25. The M25 was designed out of a need for a semi auto sniper rifle, and it was the weapon of choice for SEAL snipers during Desert Storm. The M21 holds a dear spot in many U.S. Army snipers hearts (me included), and rightfully so.

Yes, it's in the Garand family, I vote for an M14 of some type...didn't know they still used 'em...more than .223 for sure.

Does anyone know if an M 14 can shoot as well as a Remington 700?

Thank you for posting that clarification. I was about to ask if the rifle was behind the blond girl's red hat.

Retired from the boats---suffered a spinal injury and was discharged :-(

Later the navy made a few (unavoidable) Boo-Boo's in my treatment---made it a bit worse.

Gawd, do I miss angles-and-dangles---best done when the MS's are in a cranky (pun intended!) mood!
