Old-Timers versus Newbies
borntobeagle

Posted on 10/04/2004 2:33:37 AM PDT by borntobeagle

I am appalled.

I want you "old-Timers" take a good hard look at how each and every one of you are welcoming the "newbies" to this very Site called FREEREPUBLIC.

Isn't the very idea of enlightening the public to the ideas of conservatism of any relevance to you? I witnessed a fellow Freeper downright insult a "newbie" on this board by telling the poster to "take a hike".

Is this how you want to represent the Republican/Conservative ideas that we adamantly believe are better for our Nation? Simply stated, it is both offensive and insulting to anyone who may wish to learn more, use what they learn, and become involved.

Yes, I too, am considered a "newbie". I have lurked here since 2000, but recently added my screenname to make a few comments and get added to ping lists of importance to me. But don't be decieved by thinking I am ignorant or any less valid than any old-timer. I proudly served in the Gulf War 1 under George HW Bush. I work diligently campaigning for Bush's re-election. I consistenly walk the turf to register new Republicans to vote, and remain active with HSLDA's Generation Joshua to raise a future generation of Americans with conservative values. And I avidly fight any legislation that affect my rights to homeschool my children.

A newbie by adding a screen name here, yes. A newbie to the world of conservatism, maybe not, you just cannot determine that by the date a person registers to Freerepublic. But invalidating our efforts and intents by telling us to "take a hike" because we are new should be scorned by all.

Many of you have locked yourselves into a "Freeper Club" mentality, which could prove to becoming rotten fruit in turning away those who want to become part of the process, instead of part of the problem.

I highly suggest that as more of us "newbies" come, you can feel honored in knowing your message is getting out. And now that you are getting them here, please show the consideration of welcoming, training, and acknowledging their questions and concers. Any good Conservative should feel blessed to have the opportunity to do so.

You make a good point, but are mistaken by applying it to all of us who've been around a while. If you've got something useful to say, the vast majority of those who've been around a while will take you seriously.

On the other hand, if you've really been lurking here since 2000, then you know the signs of trolldom, and you should understand that some folks are sensitive to the signs (perhaps too sensitive).

And perhaps you're just too thin-skinned. This is a pretty free-speaking crowd. You're seeing the difference between pain-free lurking, and the jabs you endure by jumping into the pile. The sparring is different when it's directed at you.

So thicken your skin, don your asbestos undies, and have fun.

Not yet. When you sleep with the laptop right beside you, or take a 'FR break' to run home and check the news, then perhaps you may have an issue. Not that I'm speaking from personal experience or anything :o)

I mentioned in a private reply to someone I feel as though I have been beaten by rocks, just for defending another guy who was attacked.

I bet the other guy is having a great day at my expense!!

Right...one of them who flamed me I really sorta liked though we differed on policies a lot..His posts on some other forums really surprise me...I was disappointed.

One riled me so much I was standing in line for suspension if I didn't ignore him!..."Ignore" is a mental note I have to make to myself at times!

Yes, you are correct, I should not have applied it to all, I apologize for that generalization.

It is ncessary, though, to point out the fact of which I witnesses.

Yes, I am finding that lurking may best serve my interests. I was not intending to inflame, I was just asking all to think about the power to be had in the growing number of those who wish to actively work toward restoring conservative morally correct values.

I will tell you that ignoring the grouches and taking part is worth it...There is strength in community..We are not all alike..There are libertarians, Buchananites,Constitution Party members and mostly Republicans..Sometimes we mostly pull together..sometimes it's a food fight!

I like the part about "morally correct" and "integrity" comments. It just sounds so....conservative. And then there's that spark of righteous indignation! The "DAMN YOU!" post.

I hope they don't lose any time studying to be a Pastor by posting on FR.

I don't know. I do know that someone's vanity post was met with a bit of hostility by someone else.

got laundry, dishes, etc to do but take every chance to sit here and check out campaign news. Does that mean I'm addicted?

I can vacuum my upstairs in the time it takes me to log on to the forum...a FR addict, but still a pretty good housewife!

Yep, sure was. And by a few others I might add. Newbie vanities attacking other members of FR ought to be brought into question, esp. when they can't back up their accusations.

Did you ever date Classy Green Eyed Blonde?

Any departure from this principle postpones the day when we will be taken seriously. When will the MSM really respect us? When we respect each other.

Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn. I DO NOT respect the NYTimes, LATimes, Alphabet nets, and liberal pundits.

And what THEY think of FR means less than nothing to me.
