Old-Timers versus Newbies
borntobeagle

Posted on 10/04/2004 2:33:37 AM PDT by borntobeagle

I am appalled.

I want you "old-Timers" take a good hard look at how each and every one of you are welcoming the "newbies" to this very Site called FREEREPUBLIC.

Isn't the very idea of enlightening the public to the ideas of conservatism of any relevance to you? I witnessed a fellow Freeper downright insult a "newbie" on this board by telling the poster to "take a hike".

Is this how you want to represent the Republican/Conservative ideas that we adamantly believe are better for our Nation? Simply stated, it is both offensive and insulting to anyone who may wish to learn more, use what they learn, and become involved.

Yes, I too, am considered a "newbie". I have lurked here since 2000, but recently added my screenname to make a few comments and get added to ping lists of importance to me. But don't be decieved by thinking I am ignorant or any less valid than any old-timer. I proudly served in the Gulf War 1 under George HW Bush. I work diligently campaigning for Bush's re-election. I consistenly walk the turf to register new Republicans to vote, and remain active with HSLDA's Generation Joshua to raise a future generation of Americans with conservative values. And I avidly fight any legislation that affect my rights to homeschool my children.

A newbie by adding a screen name here, yes. A newbie to the world of conservatism, maybe not, you just cannot determine that by the date a person registers to Freerepublic. But invalidating our efforts and intents by telling us to "take a hike" because we are new should be scorned by all.

Many of you have locked yourselves into a "Freeper Club" mentality, which could prove to becoming rotten fruit in turning away those who want to become part of the process, instead of part of the problem.

I highly suggest that as more of us "newbies" come, you can feel honored in knowing your message is getting out. And now that you are getting them here, please show the consideration of welcoming, training, and acknowledging their questions and concers. Any good Conservative should feel blessed to have the opportunity to do so.

Thanks, will do.

In the meantime, can I get by with repeating post #32 and posting "Damn You" to whoever I please?

Thanks.

I have always read on his, never needed to have my own till we moved up in the world to Office XP.

IOW~~We upgraded to Windows XP office, we've always shared the same homepage and email, now I have my own.

I have other more impending places to work/post on for homeschool legislation.

Yes, Homeschooling Mother's actually do count for something in the world and I have been trying my darndest to work towards no one infringing on the rights of any family to homeschool. Southern KY is my main topic at the moment; the Skewl districts in Harlan County, for example, has infringed upon homeschooler's 4th ammendment rights, which are always challenged.

I had the same good experience...I have been blasted, ridiculed and flamed but not often at all and by those who tend to do that sort of thing. I've learned to calmly stand my ground..Just made me grow a little thicker skin!

Thank heavens for Free Republic!

Most of our other periods of rapid growth came at times of struggle ...

This is why I am, generally, very welcoming of newbies. The times of struggle not only bring fellow conservatives into the forum, the difficult times also bring the worms out from under their rocks. Unless it is clearly obvious, I do not automatically assume that a newbie is a troll. A lot of genuine conservatives have signed on recently and yes, it is unfortunate that they get hazed along with the liberal trolls.

There is no sure fire way to separate the wheat from the chaff. Thick skin, patience, state your views intelligently and coherently...it all helps.

I agree, who can be trusted when there is a rapid growth?
Well, I think it all comes out in the wash, sooner or later you see the stains, don't you?

But we aren't stained UNTIL you notice it.

So if hazing is the way it is here, I will still refuse to sit back and watch people tell others to "take a hike". And I suppose I'll get attacked every time for it, but that's part of having integrity, now, isn't it?

Several have managed to try...Two were absurd and I killed them with my wit and charm, four are now wallowing in some pitiful forum, spouting the same old thing.....to a smaller audience....;)

Jim grew tired of them flaming Free Republic!

Do you mean Win_XP or MS Office? And how does this relate to FR screenname?

The right against unreasonable search and seizure?

There was a bit of a die-off amongst crabby "purists" awhile back.

Yes, the right to unreasonable search and seizure. Once they get the Director of Pupil Personnel or better yet social workers at your door, it becomes a real issue. Harlan County and many others use this tactic to try to intimidate parents and ultimately get the children back in public school, therefore getting their alloted $7000.00(almost) per student.

A lot of Homeschoolers get themselves into to trouble by not realizing how important it is to NEVER let anyone into your home that is related to Social Services or Public School Systems.

Other Ammendments are important for homeschooling, but this is one of my sticklers.

I am also a relative "newbie" and engaged in a pretty good battle early on over the Ten Commandments in the schools. I was called a troll and was bombarded from all sides it seemed. I was even threatened with the abuse button. It was great!

I learned that not all conservatives think alike. Some people are very easily offended and some will keep blasting away and take it as good as they give it. If your work gets burned in this fire you know it can't stand the opponents fire either.

BITF, when you first signed on, what was your impression of the way you were treated?

I am a sorta-newbie. I joined the Monday after President Reagans death. I am a poster at crushkerry.com, and on that Monday, the guys had on the front page the ugliness posted over at du. I was mourning, and wanted to share with someone, and found my way over here. I didn't hesitate, I joined up right away, but took some time to post. I remember my first post.... "color me stupid, but what does BTTT And Ping mean?" For the most part everyone was very nice in answering, the rest proceeded in busting my chops, but I know it was all in fun.

I love it here, and would have tolerated a much harsher hazing to be excepted.

BTW, what does BITF mean? (color me stupid, one more time :)

I've had to leave the control desk because of some of those. People really care about other people here. This place has "family" written all over it ( right down to the squabbles)
