Old-Timers versus Newbies
borntobeagle

Posted on 10/04/2004 2:33:37 AM PDT by borntobeagle

I am appalled.

I want you "old-Timers" take a good hard look at how each and every one of you are welcoming the "newbies" to this very Site called FREEREPUBLIC.

Isn't the very idea of enlightening the public to the ideas of conservatism of any relevance to you? I witnessed a fellow Freeper downright insult a "newbie" on this board by telling the poster to "take a hike".

Is this how you want to represent the Republican/Conservative ideas that we adamantly believe are better for our Nation? Simply stated, it is both offensive and insulting to anyone who may wish to learn more, use what they learn, and become involved.

Yes, I too, am considered a "newbie". I have lurked here since 2000, but recently added my screenname to make a few comments and get added to ping lists of importance to me. But don't be decieved by thinking I am ignorant or any less valid than any old-timer. I proudly served in the Gulf War 1 under George HW Bush. I work diligently campaigning for Bush's re-election. I consistenly walk the turf to register new Republicans to vote, and remain active with HSLDA's Generation Joshua to raise a future generation of Americans with conservative values. And I avidly fight any legislation that affect my rights to homeschool my children.

A newbie by adding a screen name here, yes. A newbie to the world of conservatism, maybe not, you just cannot determine that by the date a person registers to Freerepublic. But invalidating our efforts and intents by telling us to "take a hike" because we are new should be scorned by all.

Many of you have locked yourselves into a "Freeper Club" mentality, which could prove to becoming rotten fruit in turning away those who want to become part of the process, instead of part of the problem.

I highly suggest that as more of us "newbies" come, you can feel honored in knowing your message is getting out. And now that you are getting them here, please show the consideration of welcoming, training, and acknowledging their questions and concers. Any good Conservative should feel blessed to have the opportunity to do so.

that is for oh8eleven...semper fi, buddy
I don't attack anyone, I'm not your buddy and don't semper fi me ... you were a "squid" and never earned that right.

You haven't been on this board a week and you've already turned yourself into the victim and fighter for "truth, freedom and the little guy." Quite frankly, you're pretentiousness and righteous indignation are quite insulting.

Your comments and replies (both public and private) to my questions and others' make absolutely no sense. If you've been lurking here for 4 years, you sure don't pick things up very fast.

I especially like newbies who seek personal advise:

Generalizations are not a good idea...You All is not fair.

I welcomed you here and hope you get to understand the rough and tumble is not fatal..initiations are normal, it takes awhile to find one's way....

We are not perfect...just the best conservative forum I have found. I think it took a long time before I was pinged by someone..There are thousands of FR members..

I just loved having a place to discuss politics, get the news, discover other viewpoints, get on live threads of breaking news, grieve over losses, cheer over triumphs, see even a kitty thread once a week...We love our country, our military, our vets, and many of us love our God.

I would say Earn you stripes (time) before you take off and post a vanity.(I've been here for a while by Internet standards and haven't posted one yet, I'm not saying I'm better than you but obviously smarter)

If you don't have that kind of patience then put on a flame retardant suit.

Welcome to FR. Join the club. Analogy to the NFL, even though rookies might be great talent coming into the league they are still treated like rookies until they earn their keep on the field.

Same thing on FR. I went through the same thing when I signed up in February of 2000. Abide the rules and when you don't someone will tell you.

FR is a great place to get information and a great place to converse with fellow conservatives. You won't always agree with someone but it is a great place to have a spirited debate.

Thank you - I just posted my opinion to an article and was told I was arrogant and a newbie and basically because I was a "Newbie" my opinion was not wanted. I will no longer post my opinion on this site. I thought when I found this site it was an open forum for peoples comments. I guess I was wrong. Apparently only old timers can post intelligent comments and are worthy of consideration. I will continue to look at the site but feel my comments are not wanted here.

I checked out the thread....Be prepared to stand your ground and express yourself..People had different opinions..You defended yours...I just ignore the ones who fire off...There are always other threads to join!..

Wow I have had a lot worse said to me and sometimes ignore, sometimes stand and defend, sometimes end up laughing at the "my way or the highway" bunch....There are valid points on both sides of the issue..

What MEG33 said.

Plus, if you don't stay, you'll just reinforce all those stereotypes us New Mexicans like to perpetuate about Texans. :)

I agree with you however, I don't believe insulting people is the right way to argue your point. If the old timers do not want "newbies" to post than that should be part of the rules. They should also not take any new members. These attacks on new people to this site are uncalled for and could possibly hurt this site. Eventually all you will have is people debating themselves because no one will want to be attacked for their views.

Funny, I've been around here long enough that some of these "old timers" seem like young 'uns to me. Occasionally someone will dig up an ancient thread and I'll say to myself, "I remember those guys! I wonder whatever happened to them?"

I pretty much agree with your sentiments, being rude to newbies isn't necessary and is sometimes a copout for making a point.

OTOH, the oldtimers are rude to each other, too, lots of the time...the rough housing can be fun. Also, I have noticed plenty of really extreme rudeness coming, seemingly unprovoked, from the recent wave of newbies. I wonder if some of 'em were raised in the proverbial barn.

Welcome aboard, though, I hope you will stay around.

I lurked a long time and was familiar with the drill but managed to innocently get on a Masons thread, a religion forum thread and an immigration thread soon after registering...

I was damned, the faith of my ancestors questioned, flamed, doomed, a liberal(that's really the lowest blow), my Texas womanhood was ridiculed...and out of it all I managed to gain a couple of tough old timer friends that I am kind of proud of..

Are you a native Texan? What did people find wrong with the Masons? I am a second generation descendant of proud Scotsmen - Bruce clan. As I said before I will continue to look but not contribute for a long while.
