Some Really Off The Wall Comments By Kerry
Tonight's Debate | 9/30/04

Posted on 09/30/2004 8:40:40 PM PDT by Williams

I haven't heard any discussion of some particularly radical remarks by Kerry in the debate. First and foremost, he outlined his plan for Iran, which was to give the Mullahs the nuclear fuel they want and see if they use it peacefully under international supervision. That is exactly the plan that failed in North Korea and I can't imagine anyone wanting to give nuclear materials to the World's number one state sponsor of terrorism.

Second, Kerry made a number of not too veiled accusations that the Iraq war was a grab for oil. He said the first thing our troops did in Bagdhad was to secure the Oil Ministry building, and he made a later statement that suggested we should renounce any interest in Iraqi oil.

Third, Kerry complained that we are building bases in Iraq that "look permanent" and he said he wants to make it clear we will have no bases in Iraq. The U.S. can't say it wants bases now, but once invited by the Iraqis, only a fool would turn down basing rights next to Iran and Syria. Kerry was at times sounding very much like the peacenik who wants us totally out of the Middle East.

Also, I know that Kerry was asked early on if the war in Iraq was a "mistake." He said of course it wasn't. But then later he had his quote about the invasion of Iraq being a mistake. In fact, Kerry spent the whole night saying we shouldn't have attacked for a wide range of reasons, but then he also kept making it sound as though he would have attacked a few months later.

I think his remarks about giving Iran nuclear fuel should be played up in particular. And why would he renounce bases if offered by a new ally in an absolutely vital region?

Kerry, for being so 'smart', just has no idea of what the hell he is talking about. He doesn't realize that N Korea developed nukes DURING the Clinton years (and with their help).

He also blames W for not getting Bin Laden, too bad W did counter with "well clintongue let him go"!

Kerry also made a statement that we lost U.N. cooperation in Iraq because we failed to turn Iraqi sovereignty over to the United Nations soon after winning the war.

Yes, I caught that too. So, we were supposed to defeat Saddam, then before the dust even had a chance to settle bring in the UN as our commanders!?!? What maniac in their right mind would let the likes of France and Sudan in to "rebuild" Iraq?

Quote from Kerry: "Now, we have a choice here. I've laid out a plan by which I think we can be successful in Iraq: with a summit, by doing better training, faster, by cutting -- by doing what we need to do with respect to the U.N. and the elections."

"There's only 25 percent of the people in there. They can't have an election right now."

This is the only articulation of a 'plan' on Iraq, and I have no idea what that meant.

Kerry wanting bilateral talks with North Korea is the most absurd comment of the evening. Everywhere else we are supposed to bend over for the world and UN, but with N. Korea, we are supposed to go it alone.

Bush also needed to get across the message that Saddam was harboring terrorist and sponsoring terrorism and that taking him our was more vital to the war on terror than Osama bin Laden.

He isn't doing it. So we need to do it.

Here is an easy to read chart of what the media was saying pre-911 (and after): Connect the Dots...Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden. Send it to your family and friends, post it on your blogs, send to the media.

Here was the quote you guys are talking about: "The United Nations, Kofi Annan offered help after Baghdad fell. And we never picked him up on that and did what was necessary to transfer authority and to transfer reconstruction. It was always American-run."

Can you say "Oil for Food Program"??

Bush not good at debates? If that's true; how on earth did he beat Ann Richards and Al Gore, and some of his fellow Republicans in the 2000 primary debates? I agree, he has had his quirks; but he didn't do any worse than anyone else!

Move over Imus. Kerry is the new "I-man." My guess is he said the word "I" at least 550 times. Kind of high on himself, don't you think?

Can anyone clarify for me my favorite quote of the night? Kerry ended the "character" question with a statement that was either "Conviction can get you in trouble" or "Consistency can get you in trouble." Does anyone know the exact quote. Whatever it was, it sums up Kerry perfectly!!!

I can't agree. I think Bush showed a solid mastery of the topics, and he did it within the 2 minute, 9o & 30 second parameters. Maybe his only mistake is in not realizing some Americans don't know Kerry was talking total bull.

Okay, here's the entire section from Kerry:

"But this issue of certainty. It's one thing to be certain, but you can be certain and be wrong.

"It's another to be certain and be right, or to be certain and be moving in the right direction, or be certain about a principle and then learn new facts and take those new facts and put them to use in order to change and get your policy right.

"What I worry about with the president is that he's not acknowledging what's on the ground, he's not acknowledging the realities of North Korea, he's not acknowledging the truth of the science of stem-cell research or of global warming and other issues.

"And certainty sometimes can get you in trouble."

Sorry you are so distraught. Bush did just fine. The numbers will prove it in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Kerry lied when he said that he never used that word regarding Bush. He has used it numerous times.

"And certainty sometimes can get you in trouble."

Thanks. If this is true, JK should have no trouble at all!

Also where is he going to get TWO new divisions of US Troops? We are taking on all who volunteer now and that doesn't add up to two new divisions. Does this mean he is going for a DRAFT?

I noticed that too. What is he going to do about Russia's loose nuke materials, send Special Forces teams in to commandeer them? Or, is he going to go to the UN and cry about it, and then watch that useless debating society talk about it for twenty or thirty years?

Global test, riiiight! That's the ticket, don't do anything until you have the unanimous consent of the entire world?
