Shatner Fools Iowa Town With Fake Movie Shoot ("He... He's PUNKED, Jim...!")
WFTC.com ^ | 9/30/04 | AP

The eastern Iowa town of Riverside -- whose claim to fame is that it is the future birthplace of Captain James T. Kirk of "Star Trek" fame -- has been duped.

William ShatnerWilliam Shatner, who played Kirk, let Riverside in on his secret Tuesday night that the town is the unwitting cast of a reality television show.

Shatner originally said he chose Riverside as the location to shoot a science fiction movie he wrote called "Invasion Iowa."

But now the truth is out.

Shatner said the filming done in Riverside will be used for a show that will be shown in 2005 on cable channel Spike TV.

To soften the blow, Shatner and his co-producers are donating $100,000 to Riverside for community projects.

The cast and crew also passed the hat and collected $12,000 for a book fund at Riverside Elementary School.

He has a show?

Some lawyer show. Only saw a snatch of it once. He's utterly amoral and non-PC, but so open about it he's almost honest. Very funny!

"Anybody seen his new TV show?"

Actually, I like Shatner. But honestly I can't bring myself to get into the fall season. Its like admitting summer is over...even though it really is. I caught this Monday's Everybody Loves Raymond and I predict it will be the show's "jump the shark" episode. After that, I'm back to watching nearly zero TV....and I feel much better.

BTW, The actress who played Miramanee? absolutely beautiful. Runs circles around the "she MUST be alien" Angelique Pettijohn and that "she was green as a slave woman" squeeze of Capt. Pike.

I might have had the same reaction if she were stoned to death in front of me.

I started watching when i was 8, and then kept watching when it went into syndication.

I became a real fanatic between the ages of 10 and 14.

I'm just now 44.

Yes, I am still a geek.

Hey, if it's like most small towns, they'd probably get better government if the mayor WAS liquored up all the time! lol
