WORD FOR THE DAY, Thursday, September 23, 2004
September 23, 2004 | Slip 18

Posted on 09/23/2004 7:43:43 AM PDT by Slip18

In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of “word for the day”. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the “word of the day”; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....

Subbie Slip has her whip, handcuffs and legcuffs today. Word is around that Sea Dragon has new handcuffs, so all y’alls behave yourselves, ya hear?

The rest of the stuff is locked up in my drawer.

Maiden noun:

1) Maid, virgin
2) Archaic: Former Scottish beheading device resembling a guillotine
3) A mare, stallion or gelding that has never won a race

Well my original story was that Ann was in town last night and we got together and ended up having breakfast together. But I guess I let the truth slip out -- she addressed some legal group last night in Fort Worth and had a breakfast at the Fort Worth Club this morning for the Fort Worth Business Press. It was really great and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Most of our friends have Direct, and many of them had switched from Dish - so that is why we decided to go with it.

But there seems to be a problem about where the dish itself is going to go - I came back inside - I'll let hubby deal with the installer, I have no idea what they are talking about.

Cluck Gooble, not Dumb Cluck, that's the one.

(Although I seem to remember some actresses claiming Clark Gable wasn't very bright, to put it mildly).

The 1st installer had no clue what he was doing. I ran him off, and requested someone else. The 2nd guy was great.

In his spare time, Dubya rescues fair maidens from dragons.

I'm working on that with Miss Florida but not getting anywhere. Ho hum. ("Ho hum" is an expression of exasperation, I'm not addressing a Chinese prostitute...)

Well ixnay on the Direct-TV. Because we're planning on reshingling the roof, the installer's supervisor told him to cancel the installation.

Yup. Did I tell you Margaret Mitchell wrote the Rhett Butler character with Gable specifically in mind? And that ol' Cluck supposedly invented the expression "wild blue yonder" (as in "Off we go, into the")?
