Although I am not Jewish myself, I do respect his decision. I am sure he is being pressured by some to play since they are in the middle of the pennant race.

Isn't he already violating the Sabbath if he plays on any other Friday night or Saturday afternoon?

Alas, Shawn Green is in a bad PR situation in regards to his preference for following Jewish religious teachings. Imagine if the Los Angeles Dodgers lose the National League West division by 1-2 games, and you KNOW people will wrongly dump on Mr. Green for favoring his religious beliefs over the needs of the Dodgers in the pennant race.
