CAT I HURRICANE JEANNE ADVISORY #31

DISCUSSION

...JEANNE--A THREAT, NOT A THREAT, A THREAT...LOW CONFIDENCE IN FORECASTS ON THIS SYSTEM...NOW A HURRICANE...ANOTHER CHANGE TO THE INTEREST WATCH AREA...

JEANNE has undergone explosive deepening of its central pressure, but the eye is still cloud covered and open to the south, indicating the presence of significant shear.

Yesterday, models came into good agreement.  Today, models came into good disagreement.

The consensus--if it can really be called that--is what is being shown in the graphic.  JEANNE will make a slow anticyclonic loop and then proceed westward.  This is a very low confidence forecast, in the words of the NHC.  But there's nothing better.

As stated earlier, JEANNE is in a relatively high shear environment.  Several things could happen over the next several days.  JEANNE could upwell significant amounts of cold water from staying in roughly the same spot for awhile, cutting off its "fuel," it could get sheared off by the SW flow over top of the cyclone, it could ingest the cold air from the shortwave to its north.  Again, models are all over the place.  NHC has prepared a forecast on the premise that none of these events will come to pass--the "safe" solution.  It, like the path forecast, is of very low confidence.

INTEREST WATCH AREA

Interests along the United States Atlantic littoral from Florida to Virginia should monitor the progress of JEANNE.

Top Bush advisors are said to be pushing for the removal of the moderator from the debate to be held at Arizona State University. The moderator is from CBS. The President has not made any indication he supports this notion.

USA Today is running a story that CBS arranged for a confidential source to talk to Joe Lockhart, an aide to John Kerry, after the network received the "unauthenticated" (forged, actually) documents.

The Criminal Party admits the documents are false, but Terry McAwful is pressing on: "Now that we know what's not true, let's focus on the facts..." [Yeah, right.]

Meanwhile, the GOP issued the following statement:

We accept CBS's apology for a breach of the journalistic standards that provide the American people confidence in news organizations, but some disturbing questions remain unanswered.

CBS has now answered questions about the authenticity of the documents but questions remain surrounding who created the documents, who provided them to CBS and if Senator Kerry's supporters, Party committee, or campaign played any role.

Did Bill Burkett, Democrat activist and Kerry campaign supporter, who passed information to the DNC, work with Kerry campaign surrogate Max Cleland? Did Bill Burkett's talks with ‘senior’ Kerry campaign officials include discussions of the now discredited documents? Was the launch of the Democrat National Committee's Operation Fortunate Son designed with knowledge of the faked forged memos? Terry McAuliffe said yesterday that no one at the DNC or Kerry campaign, ‘had anything to do with the preparations of the documents,’ but what about the distribution or dissemination?

In an effort to regain the trust of the American people CBS should not only investigate the process that led to the use of these documents but they should identify immediately those engaged in possible criminal activity who attempted to use a news organization to affect the outcome of a Presidential election in its closing days.

For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

Several years ago when eastern NC got hit 5 times in 3 years, it was months and months before all the debris was picked up from the side of the road. I know that I went to get m-i-l the Christmas after Fran hit (August or early September) and got behind a truck picking up hurricane trash.

And, although we weren't in this area at the time, Hugo just devastated the Charlotte metro area. From time to time I still hear references to huge piles of decaying debris that were dumped out in the country. A couple of years ago I think there was actually a fire that started in one of the piles (think several football fields long and wide and 20' high) from spontaneous combustion ... and that storm hit in the late 80's IIRC.

Patience will be the keyword for Floridians for a long time to come.

No, I don't think it is "shell shock" or what is now called PTS (Post Traumatic Syndrome). He apparently did not want to be anywhere near the enemy. Made quite a fuss about things when they deployed the Swift Boats from the "safe" areas around CamRanh Bay to the delta area.

One of the items that popped out at me from the timeline being kept by christie was...

it was only 28 days between the time sKerry got his 1st PH until he left Vietnam. Now... he didn't get his 1st PH until much later than the "action" for which he claimed it. Since the Boston Whaler never engaged an enemy, his superior officer refused his claim. After he was no longer under the command of that superior he made the claim to another.

He was determined to get out of combat at all costs... so he made up or exaggerated the "wounds". Never lost a day of duty and I can't believe the action for which he received his Silver Star or Bronze Star. Marines that served in Vietnam for full tours with me would embarass him with laughter if they knew of his claims and the awards he received.

Yes, I believe you are right about the patience that Floridians will need for a while. I'm thankful I didn't sustain any major damage but so many others suffered greatly.

Going to go to bed and try to sleep. Don't like to lie in bed awake but...

goodnight!

Agree with you completely except for one point ... I don't think he and his ilk can be embarrassed ... they have no shame. They should be embarrassed but I don't think they're capable of that feeling. How else could he have claimed what he has all these years!

I wonder what happened to Cat Stevens. He performed my favorite rendition of Morning has Broken.

Yes, that is a beautiful song. Did you see my #232 and the post I referenced? That tells what happened to him ... which was a total surprise to me.

How's the new job going? And how is your family?

Duh! It's late. I just figured out what you meant. I can't imagine how someone could turn to Islam ... but there are people in the world who don't understand how we could turn to Christianity. They haven't yet experienced Amazing Grace so are still blind.

Thanks for the info on Cat Stevens.

The family is doing great. We had a family get together Sunday evening to celebrate September birthdays. It was an evening of ethnic food. The baby, now a year old, is quite the hit with the kids, especially the girls.

Work is very busy. But I'd rather be too busy than not busy enough. I'm still really enjoying my job. We just got new code, so I am having fun finding all the defects and figuring out what is going on with the new product. This is the fun part of the job.

I also just signed another lease to rent for a year. I was thinking about only six months, but decided that a year would be the best. I start looking for a townhouse, but I want to take my time to buy a place.

Glad things are still going well. YAY on the lease. I'm guessing you have mixed feelings about buying ... eager to have your own place but dreading moving again.

Blech, I hate to move. However, I am saving my pennies to have a professional moving company move me the next time. Just imagine, to box everything up and move the furniture and stuff.

I did get a $300 rebate to sign another lease, so that sweetened the pot a lot. That $300 will go into savings.

The other new thing in my life is that I 'discovered' one of my cats is a boy cat. Yup. I took my sister's word that both kitties were girls. The tiger stripe looked straight at me last week and peed under the table in the kitchen in the far corner. I picked him and flipped him over and discovered that he was a boy. So this week they both get fixed. And then I will see if the now nameless cat keeps marking his territory. Unfortunately, he will have to go if he keeps this up. I hate to do it, he is a beautiful cat and very affectionate, but I am renting.

Some people think yellow tiger kitties are possessed/flawed. I heard that many times after my folks' experience with one. They had one that had to be put down because he bit my Mom one too many times. It was strange, because he was such a sweetie otherwise. Hope yours straightens up after the big fix.
