CAT I HURRICANE JEANNE ADVISORY #31

DISCUSSION

...JEANNE--A THREAT, NOT A THREAT, A THREAT...LOW CONFIDENCE IN FORECASTS ON THIS SYSTEM...NOW A HURRICANE...ANOTHER CHANGE TO THE INTEREST WATCH AREA...

JEANNE has undergone explosive deepening of its central pressure, but the eye is still cloud covered and open to the south, indicating the presence of significant shear.

Yesterday, models came into good agreement.  Today, models came into good disagreement.

The consensus--if it can really be called that--is what is being shown in the graphic.  JEANNE will make a slow anticyclonic loop and then proceed westward.  This is a very low confidence forecast, in the words of the NHC.  But there's nothing better.

As stated earlier, JEANNE is in a relatively high shear environment.  Several things could happen over the next several days.  JEANNE could upwell significant amounts of cold water from staying in roughly the same spot for awhile, cutting off its "fuel," it could get sheared off by the SW flow over top of the cyclone, it could ingest the cold air from the shortwave to its north.  Again, models are all over the place.  NHC has prepared a forecast on the premise that none of these events will come to pass--the "safe" solution.  It, like the path forecast, is of very low confidence.

INTEREST WATCH AREA

Interests along the United States Atlantic littoral from Florida to Virginia should monitor the progress of JEANNE.

Top Bush advisors are said to be pushing for the removal of the moderator from the debate to be held at Arizona State University. The moderator is from CBS. The President has not made any indication he supports this notion.

USA Today is running a story that CBS arranged for a confidential source to talk to Joe Lockhart, an aide to John Kerry, after the network received the "unauthenticated" (forged, actually) documents.

The Criminal Party admits the documents are false, but Terry McAwful is pressing on: "Now that we know what's not true, let's focus on the facts..." [Yeah, right.]

Meanwhile, the GOP issued the following statement:

We accept CBS's apology for a breach of the journalistic standards that provide the American people confidence in news organizations, but some disturbing questions remain unanswered.

CBS has now answered questions about the authenticity of the documents but questions remain surrounding who created the documents, who provided them to CBS and if Senator Kerry's supporters, Party committee, or campaign played any role.

Did Bill Burkett, Democrat activist and Kerry campaign supporter, who passed information to the DNC, work with Kerry campaign surrogate Max Cleland? Did Bill Burkett's talks with ‘senior’ Kerry campaign officials include discussions of the now discredited documents? Was the launch of the Democrat National Committee's Operation Fortunate Son designed with knowledge of the faked forged memos? Terry McAuliffe said yesterday that no one at the DNC or Kerry campaign, ‘had anything to do with the preparations of the documents,’ but what about the distribution or dissemination?

In an effort to regain the trust of the American people CBS should not only investigate the process that led to the use of these documents but they should identify immediately those engaged in possible criminal activity who attempted to use a news organization to affect the outcome of a Presidential election in its closing days.

For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

Let's see if I'm the one who officially kills the thread...

And, since nobody's up and reading this...

A plea to the powers that be: please treat Fallujah like Carthage, it will go a long way in solving the problems of Iraq...

And, if televised by al-Jazeera, the jihadi problem.

Here's something just for fun. My kids loved it.

Stare at the four dots in the center of the image for 30 seconds. Then look away and blink your eyes rapidly.

Someone higher up in The Force.

Hey, sorry about the Titans beating up on the Dolphins in week one. We needed that win given the fiasco that happened at home on Sunday against the Colts.

We Titan fans have had to deal with a lot of question marks this off season. Eddie George is gone, but by now no one really thinks we would have been better off with him. The main thing was all our salary cap issues and watching Jevon Kearse get double-teamed last night against Minnesota was a painful reminder of the hole that his departure made in our defensive line.

We had a chance to go 2 games up on the Colts on Sunday, something we really would need if we have a chance of winning the division this year.

It's my fault we lost, I think. We were ahead 17-10 when I dozed off. When I woke up, the Colts were ahead 24-17 and on the move again.

Life for the Dolphins must be a little weird without Ricky. His decision to quit/retire seemed strange to me. Odd timing too.

I can't believe Ivan is still around. Reminds me of Betty or Betsy in '64. Did a loop d loop and hit us twice. Sheesh.

For those of you who may have missed this story Tuesday night ...

Fox News Alert - Person on Watch List on Airplane to America (Cat Stevens...)

There are some really funny comments on the thread while FReepers waited for the story to develop but the facts come to light at #78 and following.

I don't know why, but I think like that too. But Sunday evening, I forced myself to stay up...so, no excuses for me...

This has been one of the strangest hurricane seasons I recall ... and I've seen some doozies in the past.

I've read somewhere that it's slightly possible (though not probable) that the remnants of Ivan could even end up crossing back over FL a third time. Sheesh!

This may not be the best time to admit that I was a huge Cat Stevens fan during my formative years. I still have some of his music around and now my oldest daughter has been getting into it.

He got too weird for me even before he converted to Islam. The last Cat Stevens album I ever bought had what I can only describe as a love song to a guy named Randy. Just turned my stomach. I can't help but think his conversion to Islam was his way of trying to purge his past.

I also watched the John O'Neill interview tonight with Hannity and was amazed at the question Colmes asked about Free Fire zones. I had not seen or listened to sKerry's comment on the Cavett show but he is so wrong about his interpretation of the ROE (rules of engagement).

O'Neill had it correct... on numerous occasions we were in Free Fire zones but the only distinction that gave us was we did not have to ask permission to engage an obvious enemy. Many, many times we passed through villages, spoke with residents, fed the kids and never thought of firing on them as they were not combatants. That is where Article 3 of the GC comes in.

sKerry, as O'Neill mentioned, fired on and killed innocents in the sampan incident, then lied about it in his after action reports. They were in a Free Fire zone at the time but there was only one person with a weapon. After taking him out there was no need to kill the others.

sKerry has lots of mental problems in my opinion. From my reading of "Unfit For Command" I think he was scared stiff all the time. That's the reason he "left" the rest of the boats when the "3" boat was hit by the mine.

sKerry reminds me so much of Lyndon Johnson whose biographer writes that, though LBJ was well over 6', when someone came after him he would fall back onto a bed or a chair, put his legs up and kick in a windmill fashion. He refused to stand up and fight.

sKerry is all mouth!

It sounds like his present is catching up with him now ... :-)

I had no clue what had happened in his life in the last few decades.

I have wondered if he is suffering from what they used to call "shell shock" ... but your notion that he was chicken to begin with has a lot of merit, too ... and some facts to back it up.

Hope you're continuing your progress back to normal!

Hi kay...

Up late, can't sleep, probably because I had a late nap. Been taking things so easy this past week or so but feel the need to start to do things, especially in the yard.

The debris from the hurricane is gone for the most part but still have a utility trailer full that has to be taken to the dump. My neighbor, who is also my pastor, has his debris piled along the side of the road... a pile about 60' long and 5' high. As one could guess it is also about 6' wide. Sometime, hopefully soon, the people with pick-up contracts will come along.
