Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
"Then to add insult to injury, Cav sold all his horses and quit riding so I haven't had a parade buddy since. I went to a couple of smaller, daytime parades but it just wasn't the same. {snif} {pout}"
I am sorry, we did have a lot of fun in those parades. We nearly froze our hineys off at a couple of them though. Someone has a picture of us together and if I can ever track her down I hope to get a copy of it. You wore your hair shoulder lenght back then and was wearing your black pants and boots with a red jacket with a black riding hat, You were looking good. I believe that is the same night we rode through the park and let all those kids pet our horses.
Anyway, if I get a copy of the picture I will try to post it. : )
I hate frozen water buckets, though :~\
You already know my peanut butter goes in the frig:')
Dittos :~D Frozens Potato chips....
It's beautiful but it's kind of like looking at black and whites
If this double posts later sorrry, but did you see Barbara Walters talking to that guy about Jeopardy?
I have been having to do a lot of adjustment myself. I can't work split shift and odd hours anymore. I'ts not easy for me to be a 8-5 person. Anyway, I declined to get into decorating this year because a lot of my staff last year were very creative and put in a lot of work only to lose to santa clauses. Today I gave in and picked my room. I got smiles and two ladies had a good time. It kind of hit me hard that it not's about me:') I felt so good that I have them all decorating doors today.
I think it is very cool that you have wild horses you can see. Thanks for posting!
If you walked out there, how close could you get?
No I didn't. Is it on 60 Minutes?
As long as you are walking or driving, probably about 30-40 feet. They don't get upset unless you are on horseback. Husband and I stopped one time when out four wheeling in the hills with the dogs. One of our dogs was actually walking under one of the wild horses. We try to stay close to the vehicle though, sometimes the stud will charge us in a bluff to get us to leave. Afraid that sometime one of them will misjudge the distance :)
And if you are on horseback do they run or do they treat it at all with curiousity like an approaching horse?
Usually they take off. They have been chased by people on horseback. I had them run at us once, riding my mare but then turn and run away before getting too close. She might have been in season and that caused the closer attention.
I see.... I've always been curious, about herding wild horses on horseback, how the personal dominance of the mounted horse plays into the dynamic.... Or... if the aggressive actions of the rider trumps that.
I think the only way you could herd wild horses by horseback is with a team of riders or a string of horses. They will not let you get close at all if you are on horseback, you would just have to wear them out. Now, it's possible that if you were somewhere remote where they had never been chased it would be different.
Well, I am envious that you can see them. May your little band thrive. :~)
Not sure:') My TV acting weird. Fox on 35 and CNN and MNS sandwich. It kept jumping channels. She was talking to some guy that had been on the show a long time.
How many do you think are there?
