Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
A very Merry Christmas to you too. Hope your side of the hill is getting the warming trend we are. Record lows are only fun for a day or too. Gorgeous rainbow this side this morning.
Wow! What gorgeous trees! They might actually be sheltering your house from the wind since they're so close together. I might be afraid if you had a really bad ice storm, but the wind shouldn't be able to get a hold of any one tree enough to break it. :o)
The ones at my sisters were in a narrow line between the barn and a pasture. Plus they were both huge hackberry trees, which are notoriously weak wooded.
I've always been told worming depends more on how many horses you have in ratio to how much pasture you have. I've never heard that flies have anything to do with worming other then bot flies, which I worm for 3x's a year. They do disappear after the first frost. Our weather is warm enough throughout the year to warrent warming all year. Since my horses are dry lotted mostly, no pasture at all, they need to be wormed all year around.
Becky
See:), I'm not the only one fascinated/impressed with your trees:)
Becky
Welcome to our thread:) Do you want on the morning ping list?
Becky
I believe worms are active/dormant at the same time as flies, when the flies are gone, preventative worming isn't needed either if they have been wormed, because there isn't a new source of infestation in winter. Something to follow up on with the vet when he comes if you haven't heard that, because I don't recall my source.
I love 'em too, if they don't kill me! The wind hasn't picked up ~yet~ like it was predicted. Just rainy and dark out.
Now that's what I call Christmas Trees!!
You know how I said my working was going to take alot of adjustment. I've been looking all over for a half open bag of chips I had last night. Know where I found them....in the freezer:)
Becky
That doesn't even look like it could be real:)
Becky
ROTFL! So tell me, do chips freeze well?
They're real crunchy:)
Becky
Thats where I keep mine. Keeps um fresh:')
My mini shredded wheat and bagels in there too.
Do you keep them there even after they have been opened? It doesn't seem to have affected them.
Becky
I only put them in the freezer after I open them. When it was just Eddie and I , things would go stale or mold if left out. Now, I just like the taste of cold cruncy lays:')
My daughter just called and I told her what I had done. She laughed when I said they were good and crunchy. Said I'll start a new trend. I like my drinks, pop or water room temp, now my chips frozen:)
Becky
Well, learn something new everyday.
Becky
I didn't sleep much last night and came home and took a nap. I woke up thirsty and started sipping on my diet coke on the night stand from last night. As long as they don't go flat, I drink them. I prefer them cold though. However cold water cramps me. It has to be room temp.
