Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
Did you buy this horse at the Middlefield sale?
I look forward to hearing how it goes tonight! Will someone else take pics of you running?
If I go, Jenny is going too, so yeah, there will be someone there to take pictures....uuuhhhhh, if I remember the camera and a disc:)

He now is happily at a very experienced riders home who uses him for park control. Better for him and us. It's not worth getting hurt.
that is definitely a jumping mule.
I have someone going to ride her today with my saddle
Not sure what's going to happen yet but I'm strongly leaning that way. I just can't figure it out. I even went back to check that I hadn't got someone else's horse:') I would like to know what happened even though the outcome may be the same. I'm going to just go slow and check the saddle out first and see what happens when he rides her. Not costing me anything at this point. The owner going to be making some phone calls. I still think it was a leaving issue though because I was having to walk her directly towards the trailers before turning. I don't know if she could have associated that or not though. Who knows? I could analyze forever.
Keep us posted! I'm not sure if you answered this, but have you ever ridden Sara Lee alone without Okie?
Yes and no. I have ridden her alone when I first got her but other horses nearby and since then he has always been in the background if not close. Lately they have been a pair though. Eddie riding him yesterday after I put her up. He put up a little bit of a token fuss but went on. Just looking back , trying to turn stuff. What you would expect.
Wow! Cool Mule! And in fine form as well. Hooves and knees together and the mule seems ready like to form a bascule with its body in the next frame. Thanks for the picture. Made my day.
Thanks. This the one you got hurt on? 3 people, wow! I wouldn't want to be in that park:') You have a new horse though don't you?
Not knowing why a horse does something like that is the scariest thing about them. If I know why, I can forgive it and it doesn't bother me.
Just a word of warning tho. A very experienced rider may not have one lick of trouble out of her. Some how they just know.....if whoever tests her today doesn't have a problem, I would still be careful of her. Some horses will work great for one person but not someone else.
CS has a horse she bought from a friend of Jenny's. This horse bucked and acted the fool everytime he rode her. But with CS, she has been perfect. Who knows why???
Becky
Oh, and I was wondering, what kind of bit were you riding her in?
Becky
It's a broken bit like Okie's. I've ordered a head stall like his too. Right now I'm using a leather, just over the right ear.
Most likely I'm going to give her away but I'm thinking about getting back on her before I do. (with the trainer present).
Anyway, I'm not going to make any decisions today. I have a class tonight to train to be a clerk during elections, so nothing horsey until tomorrow:')
Just tell him you're patrolling the perimeter... ;o)
LOL...good idea:)
Becky
Well I've got two rode. Rusty isn't going to get trail rode today, but he is going to the arena tonight. Kristy is coming to work Harley in the arena here, so I can watch JP. He won't need to go tonight.
Cindy, do you know if the bit is an O ring snaffle or does it have shanks and a curb chain?
Becky
