Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
We just drained a big ole (marble sized) abcess thing on my dog with a pin. ecurbh held the towel and the spotlight. It was not a bad surgery for a couple of amateurs!
I bet he got immediate relief too , didn't he?
Yeah - she stopped fighting when we got the initial pressure off.... I don't think she felt the pin so much as anything touching it hurt.
Found it right on the back of her neck when I was petting her. Thought she was getting old dog bumps already! She'd been kind walkin' around with her head down.
That reminds me. I still need to order that vet book.
Good morning.
Cindy, hope you're feeling OK.
Becky
BBuuuurrrrr, I've been sitting on the back step in the mornings to drink my coffe, and this morning I had to put on a sweat shirt, 51. How's your weather?
Becky
Mornin', Becky! It's 54 degrees out right now. The weather in September has been beautiful -- mid-70s to mid-80s, with lots of sunshine. We're supposed to have our last day of 70s today, then cooling off to highs in the mid-60s the rest of the week, with lows in the low to mid-40s. September has been warmer than both June and August! Too bad they close the city pools the last weekend of August.
I agree with Hair and Becky. Dude horses often aren't broke, and just pony behind other horses. Was she ever a lesson horse? Have you ever ridden her alone? Good luck, and I hope that you're feeling OK today.
That sounds beautiful:) The afternoons here have been perfect, and the evenings, I have taken to strolling around the yard 3-4 times. Just get up in the middle of a show a go outside:). Mack thinks I'm nuts, but hey, what else is new....he's probably right. I hope we get a month of two of this.
Becky
Hello:)
So are you going to get to do any extra riding this week?
Becky
Mornin. I'm ok
I do because I did it because I was upset and had no intention of riding afterwards. I forgot to remove her halter and had to go back to the pasture. Our routine was shot and she had that fearful, dead look in her eyes like she did when I got her. If nothing else I will find her a good home.
Good morning everyone! Feels cold here, though it says 51. Have to work this morning, just wishing everyone a good day!
Is the owner/trainer person going to ride her (or have someone ride her) today?
Sounds like you've pretty much decided to get rid of her. I think that is a very smart decision. Will the lady at the barn take her back? will she give you your money, or just find another for you?
Becky
Did your temporary job turn into a permenant one?
Becky
No - I am filling in for someone who will be coming back. Soon. It was supposed to end sometime this week.
The placement agency tried to call me a couple times on Friday but I didn't get the messages till after 5. I don't know why they were calling so I am a little uncertain about whether I am going to show up there today un-needed.
I'm waiting for Trash to finish his breakfast, then I'll ride him, then Harley, and if I'm up to it Rusty:).
Mack says he will have my truck running by this evening, so I'm planning on going down to the arena again, fingers crossed. I'll take both Harley and Rusty. I'm hoping to get them both the the barrel race tomorrow night. I want to run an exhibition on Rusty and see where we're at time wise. Harley is just going to be exposed to the commotion.
