Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
Is that the site of any injections?
I've never given strangles vaccine. They give it at boarding stables, but mine don't have a lot of contact, so I've skipped that one.
Does your bridle have a throat latch? Could it be rubbing?
Becky
Too high up for an injection site. I do have a throat latch on my bridle, but it's always loose. It's a mystery. At least it doesn't seem to bother him.
I've been told that any strap that is too loose and can move can cause rubs as bad as one that is to tight. In reality tho, I can't imagine a throat latch, too loose or to tight, doing that. It was just a thought.

Yes, He was walking on air - plans two more rides before he leaves.
I keep suggesting family or friends buy me that for birthday or Christmas. They won't, afraid they'll upset me I think. I just love it, would like to have it and wear to work some days :)
My daughter made one for her MIL, who is a waitress. She wears it to work sometime. Get's lots of laughs from it.

Oh, that sounds like my neighborhood. LOL, sometimes we have to call around to find what we need, can't remember who borrowed it last.
I don't have a covered arena but do have three round pens of various sizes. People trailer over to use them, just call ahead to make sure someone is home.
And here he is now. He'll be 2 in April...
And here is Miss Grace a 1 day old...
She'll be 2 in June. I don't have a current picture of her, but she's gray. She was the blackest thing I'd ever seen when she was born.
Gorgeous pics though.... Hard to tell when they are born that they will grey out huh? You're right, she's so black she looks blue!
Oh, PS
What kind of floor are you laying? I want to tear up my carpet and put in some type of wood flooring.
They are precious - Is mom or dad black? I can't tell if the mare is brown or black.
I've always heard that horses that are going to be gray are born really black like that and that black horses are born kinda mousy looking. My blue roans, like Bob and Hope, are born black too, but they have just the slightest hint of frost on the underside. Their gray usually starts to come in in a month or two when they start to shed their baby hair.
With Arabs you can tell around the eyes if they are going to grey.... And it's really funny looking because they can be born chestnut and have grey around the eyes... Those really have an ugly period of shedding out. ;~D
But yours didn't grey at the head first like Arabs do, so I don't know. I agree on your first foal with that belly that he looks like he'd roan out.... but the second one, there's just no clue.
Mom is black, although sun burned to brown. Dad was a gorgeous daple gray.
Did she turn into a dapple grey also? Certainly is a beautiful little thing in the picture.
Not yet. She's really more of a black roan right now, but her face is graying more than the rest, so she'll gray out like her dad as she gets older.
Do you use copper-tox for their feet if it's been excessively wet rainy etc?
You need to come out to New England where 40 is nice and warm!! :-D
