Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
ALL my orthopedic injuries are due to horses!
Cool! Did you take that one Cav?
OK. Thanks. I've always wondered about that. What you say makes sense.
Becky
Good morning.
Farrier coming today. I might have a chance to ride this afternoon.

Oh dear! I hope that you managed to recover quickly. I've never had any major jumping accidents, but all my injuries are riding related too. I fractured my arm in three or four places once when I fel. It wasn't even a major accident, I just happend to fall in "just the right way" All the fractures occured in my upper arm from my elbow to my clavical. So, needless to say, they couldn't cast me, which made things even more painful. I injured my right knee when a green horse spooked and slammed it into a pole, then when he pulled away the pole slid inbetween my the saddle and my stirrup leather, and caused me to twist my lower leg. I've also had facial injuries. The list goes on and on. :-)
Very nice. Are your guys getting new "sneakers" or are you pulling their shoes for the winter?
I have a hellaciously ugly scar, and I can't quite straighten the finger all the way, but the surgeon told me I really had a choice - I could have full range of motion in the opening direction or in the closing direction. I wanted full range of motion to closing because of sewing, typing, etc. I don't go around saluting people and the finger at rest falls into a slight natural curve. The scar has faded substantially (the injury was about 16 years ago) and people don't ever notice it in passing. The secret is aggressive and FAITHFUL PT.
I hyperextended my right knee and tore the ACL falling off when a horse ran out at a fence, I've broken my nose a couple of times, and possibly cracked a rib or two (not very badly - no treatment for it anyway other than time). Other than that, just bumps and bruises and injured pride . . . :-D
I have been very happy with glucosamine/chondroitin with Ester C. It really seems to work. I was standing outside on a cold damp day for over an hour before I realized that neither my knee nor my finger were hurting . . . Apparently the Vitamin C is necessary for the body to absorb the g/c.
Yoga (the mild kind, not the crazy kind) is good for increasing hip joint flexibility.
Just take it easy when you get out! (I had a hard time myself after my ACL injury. I overused it a couple of times before I got the hang of knowing when it was ABOUT to start hurting . . . :-D )
Boy! I thought I'd been knocked around riding horses, but you guys make my stuff sound like little boo-boos. Ya'll are gonna have to be more careful so we can keep enjoying hearing your stories.
Thanks, I made that one while flying over an Amish farm many years ago.
It was late Fall and the corn ears had been picked and the stalks shocked for winter fodder. : )
Good morning.
Becky
I did not ride yesterday. I babysat JP most of the day, then by the time I got home it was raining.
Hope your friend brings her horses, and you get to ride them often:)
Becky
Good morning everyone.
Went to the LCHA meeting last night to elect new board and officers for '05. I found out that the county commissioners are entertaining the idea of letting a developer change zoning on 500 acres near me from residential 20ac plots to industrial, 0.20 ac plots. Guess we have a fight on our hands here shortly.
GOOD luck. That sort of thing can be a real pain.
Becky
Where's everyone at today?:)
Becky
I've been talkin' about bull riding ;~D
