The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I LOVE the pony! So cute! I wish I'd had one like it when I was a kid, I'd've rode the legs off of it. :o)

Hey, I was just reading the thread about the girl that smelled of cigarette smoke while at school and I think you are 100% correct. Some of those people on that thread were beyond ignert. They sounded like the kind of people who think the world revolves around them.

Heck yeah, she was smoking. She will grow up to be a verbal abuser using the trick of turning the tables. There's defense like a good offense, know what I mean? And now she's learning that it works! I feel sorry for whoever it is she marries. (Unfortunately, I have alot of experience in this area) This whole scenario just makes my blood boil.

I'm sorry I was late getting to that thread. There were already 500 posts by the time I saw it.

"no defense"

I hate it when I don't catch my errors.

Meaning he's eating a little but still not the normal amount? How's his mood?

No change. He did not eat his feed last night.

He is out in the yard now picking at the grass. I'm going to start him on antibiotics today.

Hair: You're so good at searchs, what would I type in to find one of those theraputic riding places in this area? I found the name of one, but info doesn't have a number for them.

Thanks for the info.

I finally found one on my own:). I called, they sounded very interested in him even with his problem which they think as I do it wouldn't be a problem for what they would do with him. But of course I need to figure out what is going on with him now first.

He's such a brat. He's got a bucket full of feed out there. I come home with my truck full of feed. Turn him out in the yard, come in for a few minutes, look out the door and he has pulled a bag of feed out of the truck, opened it up and is standing out there eating it. He didn't get much, but spilled alot. ~shaking my head~:)

I went ahead a wormed him, and give him antibiotics. Cure him or kill him.

Are you going to get to ride today, or is ecurbh sick?

Becky

I called some of the other places from the list you gave me, no one is answering today, I'll try again when I get back from my trip, if things haven't improved.

The one lady I talked too gave me some info to help me make this decision. The main one, and it's a drawback is the amount they will give you for a tax deduction isn't much. (am I terrible to consider this end of it). To get a higher deduction you have to have the horse appraised and even that can be a hassle she said.

I've had this happen to me before with horses. Once I reach a point with them, I'm done. The horse I traded Rusty for was like that, no health issues, but a riding issue. I tried for a year to get him right and it wasn't going to happen. I tried 6 years with Belle and swore I would never hold on that long again to a problem. It's like a disconnect bottom goes off. I think I'm there with him.

I just see no purpose in advertising him tho. Who would buy him with the problems he has????

Becky

Not sure ecurbh is a little sluggy today, and really so am I still.... first priority is getting the house cleaned up. Between spending the last week working on the barn and then getting sick... the place looks like a bomb hit it.

And we need to go hang the gates on the stall doors... the temp setup we had didn't hold ecurbh's horse in last night, the little fussbudget made a break for it... ;~D
