Did I miss something?, hope your husband is OK.
Becky
I was looking at your barn pictures again this morning. Are the horses going to have free access, or are you going to lock them in? Just curious.
Becky
Morning. Sorry to hear about your vet.
I want to thank you for the morning pings. I hope I can visit this thread more often, but being primary caregiver for my mil is time consuming. I wouldn't have it nay other way, though.
I post daily on ATRW thread, but even that has been reduced to one or two daily.
Thanks again.
Thanks.
My phone has been ringing all morning, people talking about it. Just hard to believe.
Becky
That is such a bummer, Becky. And will be a strain on you if you need to call out another in the middle of some worrisome event. I hope you can find another you like as well.
Celia called this morning and is off work. She is coming to ride this morning. Trying to decide what horse to take. I want to take Rusty, because that was my plan, but Harley is in better shape, not sure how long or how hard she is wanting to ride. Rusty could go for awhile, but I don't want to push him to move fast alot.
Becky
Well my trainer nowhere around this weekend, which means it's been almost a week since I have rode Sarah Lee:'(

Indecision! Will Celia slow for you and still be happy if you take Rusty and ride conservatively?
Oh no! I'm so sorry!
It's so funny, everyone I've talked to says, they feel guilty thinking this, but are worrying about their horses too. I know Macks first response after the shock was "you'll have to sell your horses now". He was just sooooo good at keeping his prices low. He told me he did it so people would do the preventitive stuff more regularly.
He and his wife have had so many tragadies in their lives. Their only son was killed in a motorcycle accident. He had a daughter. The girls mother remarried after a while and moved to Florida, so they didn't get to see her often. Every summer they would drive down there and get her, and bring her home for a month. They also went down there for Christmas. Really loved her. I have a feeling his wife will sell their place here and move to where ever she is. He and is wife were really close, you could see that when you were around them. I bet she is really having a hard time.
She worked with him in the clinic.
Becky
Yeah, I think she would. But she'll probably say, Oh, he'll be fine:)
She's one of those who think once a horse has been conditioned for long distance, it doesn't take much to keep them there. I've known her to take a horse she has only rode maybe twice a month and do a 60 mile competitive ride. Her response is "he did it". And even tho the horse did it with no lose of P&R points, they usually come up sore somewhere. She thinks the vet was either wrong about the soreness or that it had nothing to do with the horses condition.
We fuss about this all the time:)
Becky
that was a good idea about taking your feet out of stirrups when crossing - I will probably lead him across next time and be more aware of his desire to get down and dirty!!!
Thanks.
You know, he was alot more then a vet. He and his wife really liked my DIL, and we took JP down there and took his picture with them. They always asked me about my kids and grandkids. Just really nice people. I feel I lost alot more then just a vet, even tho I didn't see them all that often. They were some of the few people left that thought of other people more often then they thought of themselves.
He could have trailers and horses lined up to the road, but when it was your turn, he never hurried, would sit down and visit. Always told you what was going on in detail. I don't know how many times I would go down there, and he'd look at the horse, tell me what to do, and not charge anything. He was a great guy.
Becky
That's very sad for his wife.
I think we all tend to consider the impact of the people in our lives first when we lose someone... When I am looking at a potential problem in one of my horses and trying to determine whether they are ill or injured, I have an added confidence that I have a great vet that I trust and like, and who if I call, I know will come! I wonder if they know how often they comfort us when they aren't there.... "Well, if this turns out to be anything serious, I'll call Dr. _____ and have him look at it" The problem feels half solved already. If I lost him, I'd have to start over again, so it's a loss to you, and your friends. They shouldn't feel bad for that.
Will you all go to the service you think?
Oh yeah, we're going to go. I've talked to another girl and we're all going together. It's in another town aways from here. I think it will be Wed. I would think they will want to give the granddaughter time to get here. She's about 13 I would say. I think she will come. Hope so, Carol will need her.
