The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Wow, it's hard enough just to get to the interview stage. Keeping the positive outlook and self esteem is nearly the hardest part though, college sorta leaches it all out of you.

There you go. That's exactly what you need to do, IMO. If you have to leave her over night, I would.

Well it was a beautiful, beautiful day here. Heather and I had a good ride.

But:(, the weather in the last hour is makeing some changes, getting cloudy and dark. We are suppose to have a cold front come thur. 58 high tomorrow, but then back to the 70's for the weekend. From the looks of things now, they got tomorrow right, just hope the rest of the forecast is too.

Empress: good to have you back.

Becky

I just got home, looked out the window and she's just standing there, calm as a cucumber. If she was still bouncing around I would definitely leave her overnight. This was a really good idea. Thanks for the help, everybody. I'm still going to pasture her by herself, though. As Barney Fife says, "Nip it! Nip it in the bud!"

Moooooo said the horse! I'm sorry - couldn't resist. The kids just laugh so hard when we fool around with the pictures and make them funny. I love hearing them laughing so hard. Best part of my day!!

Glad you had a good ride!

Are you back to marketing Harley again?

We got the top rail on the stall wall up, and some other unseen things like moving the fence charger and power supply lines out of the way of the new doors and reconnecting the fence. The 'zap' on the fence had been really weak of late, and we were kindof perplexed as to why... well, the ground wire had become disconnected from the rods and was just laying on the ground.... so now it's back hooked up right and zaps real good!

And we let Miss Cyn in to check out the new stalls.

She thinks there is something very wrong with the mangers! ;~D

Uh oh, a setback. To feed my other horses I put the mare in a round pen next to the barn. When I brought them up, the mare went a little nuts, running around the round pen and whinnying. What's funny is my geldings completely ignored her. One didn't even go by for a nose-touch, just went straight to the barn. I went to her, though, and comforted her, and she stayed right next to me.

She'll settle down in time I bet... New place, she wants to bond with somebody ;~D

And I think the tying out will teach her that getting all worked up doesn't help.

Well, we went out to see what kind of action shots we could get of TheNewMare Cyn.... She doesn't like to run with the others, and would rather come stand by us than run off when we make kissie-swishie sounds that get the other two going... It was hard to get her ~away~ enough to get a picture!

Good. Yeah I would pasture her alone too. I'd tie her up a few more days too, just for reenforcement. Then see how she does when you ride.

Great pictures, she looks like a really pretty mover.

Yes, and no about marketing Harley. He is still for sale, but I haven't really advertised it anywhere, except on that internet site. I haven't gotten any response yet. Haven't figured out how to make a picture small enough to post one. Did you by chance miss the post where I asked you and ecurbh about that, or did I miss a reply??? I hate to bother you with it, just wondering.

Hello, Chatty thread tonight! Just ended my day and I'm catching up here on FR. It was an interesting one at least. In the lab I broke a calorimeter with a metal collar, and sliced my hands to pieces with the shards. Little tiny cuts all over my darn hands.
Don't think that I'm going to get to ride this week. My grand-dad landed himself in the hospital with heart trouble, and is getting a pace maker put in tomorrow. He'll be coming home on Friday, and I'll have to go down and help my grandmother take care of him.

OK thanks, I think I'd like to take a better one then the one we were working with, so It'll be tomorrow. This site is free, just trying them out for now.

Anyway, Heather brought me a Horse Illustrated Magazine today and it had a real short, 2 paragraph article that I thought you guys would find interesting, beings as it's been a recent topic of conversation. Kind of surprised me. I'll type it here since it's short.

The American Quarter Horse Ass. announced in April that it has changed "the white rule" (Rule 227) to allow horses with white above the middle of their legs and past the throatlatch considered overo Paint markings- to be registered, provided that their parentage is verified and they meet all other registration requirements. Previously, any horses born with white appearing beyond these boundaries were ineligible for registration.

While horses wtih white beyond the previous limits are still considered uncharacteristic and undesirable for the breed (and will Be judged academically in AQHA events), the rule change opens the door to many horses previously denied registration with The AQHA.

For more IMF, call or visit the AQha at (806) 376-4811;www.aqha.com.
