The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Oh, sooooo you are rubbing our noses in your warm weather:) Just kidding. Yesterday was damp and chilly here, and I was already whining about winter. Today is beautiful. Heather is coming, but the other lady just called and canceled, why doesn't that surprise me:)

I do think it sounds like a good plan for this circumstance to tie her out of sight of the other horses for some periods.

Where ever my horse is. So, San Antonio right now and for the next few years. I haven't seen Beren since December... can we say horse withdrawl? Poor fella's been stuck out in the pasture at a boarding stable. At least he's had lots of cows and horses to play with and plenty of room to run.

Good for you:') What's next? Do you intern or can you set up your practice? Will you specialize?

Next I find a part time job and study for the spring licensing exams while looking for a full time job for when I pass. I'm hoping to find an equine or mixed practice with some older, more experienced veterinarians to start off with and gain experience. Eventually, I'll go back to get a board certification, but that's a few years off. I want to pay off my loans and get a taste of real life first.

I don't think you want to 'taste' anything having to do with veterinary medicine. ;~D

Congratulations. I wish I were you. I really wish I would have done what I should have to go to vet school.

Good morning. I was home this weekend and all the catchin up work didn't leave much time to log on. Spent quite a few hours in the saddle riding my old horse and training my new one.

The new horse is coming along fine but is a little slow picking up neck reigning. So I tried the old trick of crossing the reins underneath his neck and voila', instant improvement. Got his second set of shoes Saturday and he looked like an old pro the way he stood there, even with the dogs running around under his feet. I might have a good one here.

Isn't that funny? I was telling Eddie the other day that I wish I had went to vet school.

Yeah, I think so. Took some more pics this weekend. I'll try to have them posted tomorrow. (I'm still in the analog camera world)

I think I would have been a good vet! And that was what I always said I wanted to be as a child... it just didn't happen. Dad told me how hard it was to get into vet school, and it is.... was then anyhow. Had to be as good a student as getting into med school.

Ok, she's been tied up for a couple of hours now and she's still bouncing around. I'm going to wait her out, though. I have forever...

Had to be as good a student as getting into med school.

Uh huh, that's what I hear:'). I started pre med classes after grad from nursing and even went for my interview for medical school but chickened out because at the time I felt I was out of my class and not good enough. Dumb kid:') I don't know about a Dr. I'm a good nurse but I always thought I would have been a good vet too. I'm happy where I am now though. I have two horses and a dog I can "care for" when I start with the what ifs:')
