In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
plaudit \PLAW-dit\,noun:
plaudits; noun, plural
1. A round or demonstration of applause.
2. Enthusiastic approval; an expression of praise.
The aim of the wise man was no longer the plaudits of the masses but autarkeia, or self-sufficiency.
--Peter France, Hermits: The Insights of Solitude
Etymology: Latin plaudite, "applaud" (said by players at the end of a performance), from plaudere, "to applaud."
yeah, xshub said it was going to be a dreary day but the sun is shining! feels fallish. he is out doing errands. he loves to get rid of crap, and so he has a bug up his butt.
Just the opposite happened here - it was not supposed to be a dreary day - it was supposed to have cleared up.
But the forecast for the rest of the week looks very promising, clearing up but still cool tomorrow......but sunny and in the 80s the rest of the week. I sure hope so because hubby is on vacation. We're hoping to do some fishing and barrier island exploring on Wednesday.
So untimely..............
Hell and damnation, y'all-I actually managed to get flamed on the thread about the obese guy who lost 370 lbs because I said obesity wasn't a disease-the poster hit me with this (apparently after going to my profile):
"This man has a medical condition, too. His doctors say so. And he's being treated for it.
It's a free country. Even people in the construction industry are free to opine about medical conditions."
I didn't think that he was being very nice, so I came back with this:
I don't recall insulting you professionally, sir-I never judge a book by its' cover. I am also a casemanager with a degree in social work and over 20 years of experience in that field, and quite familiar with the contents of the DSM. I simply could no longer work with deadbeats and welfare and workers comp cheats (not to mention liberal co-workers) so I returned to the work I did while in college-do you take that to mean I suddenly lost my intellegence, or do you think all construction people are stupid and uninformed?
AMA be damned, you won't find a conservative person with my work experience who believes that obesity is a "disease" any more than any other obsessive-compulsive and addictive behavior is. These are mental problems which are overcome with counseling, emotional support, and a sincere desire on the part of the individual to improve, not surgery and other draconian measures-please don't tell me you believe in lobotomies and electroshock therapy, too..."
SHEESH...................
On a happier note, hubby just got back from Wal-Mart (he went to pick up a prescription) and brought home my b'day present!!!!! "Unfit for Comand"...........can't wait to start reading!!!
Oh, cool! And happy birthday, too!
B'day isn't until Friday -- but thanks!!!
And no - he isn't making me wait to start reading it.
In his quest for plaudit - Kerry chooses to fraudit.
Yes he did, and he's going to lose, and lose on a large scale because of it.
A+
Well, hubby got done with with the car too late to go to that junk store my neighbor told me about yesterday, what with having to go to the auto parts store in the county seat, but as soon as he finishes lunch, we are off to go there-this place sounds so great, I've just got to go see it.
I'm not going anywhere today until hubby gets home from work.......he left this morning without leaving me cash, bank card or checkbook............
The dogs are driving me nuts because they are out of food, I'm out of beer, and jax is just out of her mind!!!!!!!
No money or beer, two pissed off dogs and a bouncy kid-aaaaaagh!
And my last 1/2 pack of cigarettes!!!!!!!
He called me about 10:30 and the first words out of his mouth when I said hello were "I'm so SORRRRY"
He got caught up in phone calls for service calls and had to practically race out of the house (I had gone back to bed) and just totally forgot.
I felt so bad for him that I couldn't be mad, he really felt awful and promised he would be home early and even if he got another call this afternoon he would come home anyway - with dogfood, beer and cash!!!
I can imagine what his morning has been like - there were 4 calls on voice mail between 5 & 5:30 this morning from dispatch - he's been a busy boy.
Hustler was askin' about gettin' on the roster so's he could, like, you know, discuss things, kinda.
That OK Teach?
(Seadragon and whyisa perk up.)
I'm sure I've told all y'alls that I've been through fires, floods, squalls, blizzards, tornadoes (the kind that lift you in the air, not the kind you eat) -- and I know this is very sensitive to everyone -- but last night, we got a real live hurricane. My first. It came in off the Sea of Cortez. No damage, though. But we had rain in the mountains which we so badly needed.
Now we have flood warnings, but there are so many basins around here that a flood warning is a joke.
Get better, xs!
