As a result of the dissolution of the internet startup I worked for, 4 of us original employees have gained ownership of the company's domain name: OOP.COM
I'm in the process of determining how best to sell it. I've gotten evaluations of between $2,500 and $55,000. Anyone have any suggestions?
TOPICS:
KEYWORDS: domainname; objectoriented; oop; oopcom; url

OOP means nothing without the S.
OOP means nothing without the H.
OOP means nothing without the L.
OOP means nothing without the S in front.
OOP means nothing without the C.
OOP means nothing without the P.
Appears you have nothing.

>>OOP stood for "Object Oriented Programming."
Still does, but you already knew that...just giving you a hard time. :)
My father-in-law taught me the definition of a good deal is when both parties walk away happy. Good luck.

This may not help much - but in the book industry - OOP also stands for "out of print" books - perhaps you could contact some book dealers with a proposal or at least post offer on some of their sites.... may sell on e-bay as well as their own stores. good luck!!

>In days of yore, oop was object-oriented-programming, and was touted as the best thing since sliced bread.
Many believe it is now toast

"Now that object-oriented technologies ranging from programming languages to graphical user interfaces to the WWW have made it feasible to manufacture readily transferable objects made of bits, what does it mean to buy, sell and own them? Brad Cox proposes "superdistribution" as a solution that allows software to flow freely without resistance from copy protection or piracy--a "charge as you play" model that will work well in a world of Java-like applets. A well-thought-out "modest proposal" from one of the founders of object-oriented programming." |

I've already gotten an offer for $2,500 Let me know if that comes through for you. There's a big difference between the offers you'll get and the check you'll get on closing the sale.
This domain doesn't even rank with Alexa.com. I've sold a domain that was generating 20,000 hits a day and was ranked in the top 500,000 (which is a bigger accomplishment than it might sound). When selling it I got offers that ranged from $50 to $150,000. Just like people like to window shop and test drive cars they can't afford, people do the same with domain names. When I sold the domain mentioned above, the final price was under $2500.
The market for domain names isn't what it used to be, escpecially since ICANN has seen fit to open up nearly any three or four character extension for registration.
People who want 'oop' as their domain can get oop.info, oop.net, oop.tv, oop.biz, oop.whatever.
Don't believe the hype. There are a million posts on Ebay offering domain names. Most won't recoup the cost of the listing.

It ain't worth $50...much less $5000. I suggest you take your advertising spam somewhere else.

I have a great idea for a hurricane related product, a cheap and necessary item that anyone in the southeast would probably buy in preparation. I also a name for the product that is snappy and gets no hits on google.
I doubt if the product would get much protection from a patent because it's pretty obvious and doesn't use any new technology. It's more of a name and marketing concept.
Anyone know how to sell that?

Look on the NYSE and if there is a symbol that matches, contact the company.... That's something I hadn't thought of -- great idea. Thanks!

Check
oop bad, as an example opposite point of view. New programming models deal with objects in service oriented architecture, and aspect/attribute programming models. In a distributed world, casting "things" as objects has nothing to do with object-oriented-programming, nor should it.

I was alway told "Don't look in your own pocket to see the value in something".
I remember Transamerica paid $50,000 around 1970 to have there logo designed. It looked like a bunch of golf clubs in a bag.

I suggest you take your advertising spam somewhere else You should infer from how long I've been a Freeper that I was not doing "advertising spam," but seeking counsel from fellow Freepers. I assumed that nobody here is interested in buying it, but may have insight into where I might sell it....

I've been waiting for years to get this domain name. It's the only thing standing between me an my amazingly successful website called Obese Oriental Pharmacists. Unfortunateltly, even the low end of your price range is about $2,499 too much for me.
