In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
obviate \OB-vee-ayt\, verb:
obviates, obviating, obviated; transitive verb
obviation, obviator; noun
1. To prevent by interception
2. To anticipate and dispose of or make unnecessary
It is reasonable to assume that Martin acquired the most basic skills of the rural gentleman: horse-riding, elementary sword-play and the minor degree of literacy that compulsory attendance at divine service encouraged were all requirements that preceded -- even obviated -- the need for a more formal education. --James McDermott, Martin Frobisher: Elizabethan Privateer
Etymology: Latin obviare, "to meet or encounter," from ob viam, "placed or coming in the way" (ob, "in front of"; via, "way").
TOPICS: Education; Humor; Poetry; Word For The Day

HiYa. I hear Dan Rather was obviating like a whirling dervish last night.

Too bad something can't obviate the path of the next hurricane and turn it back eastward into the Atlantic ocean away from the US coastline.
For extra credit?...... How kind it was for Dan Rather to obviate on our behalf to insure the re-election of our gallant leader George Dubya Bush.

A see-BS anchor named Rather,
With basic checks, wouldn't bother.
"The truth, we will obviate,
And,the rest we can bloviate"
Til' the bloggers got Dan in a lather.

Morning all....
For a change we have nice weather up here in the netherlands ruled by the hildebeast. It is sunny for bubba's recovery......
Stay safe for this storm, I will be praying for you and your family. It looks like our son in Jacksonville will be spared, our number two son did evacuate from Key West.

Good morning.
I was totally surprised when school was not delayed this morning because of fog. I could not see the road on the west side where the bus turns to come to our house, and it is less than a quarter mile.
It's sorta overcast with the sun trying to peek out - but anything is better than the deluge of rain we had all day yesterday.

Zell Miller may have
obviated Kerry's lame attempt to use the selection of Edwards for VP to garner strength in the South. Zell knows that a vote for kerry is a
bad vote; I admire his honesty in the face of adversity from his own party. Unlike most democrats, Zell recognizes simple pragmatism: If kerry is piloting the
boat, dive overboard as fast as you can. Maureen Dowd wrote in a drunken stupor how she envisioned toads coming out of VP Cheney's mouth, but anyone sober and reasonably intelligent knows that the
toad vibe is really coming from kerry. Did you see kerry waving that shotgun that the union members gave him a couple of weeks ago, like he couldn't wait to go dove hunting? Well, I'm sorry but I doubt that all the
dove bait in the world could lure any birds close enough in to him that he'd be able to shoot any. Here's my advice to democrats for election night: Go ahead early and climb into
a bed, tivo the election returns (on CBS of course), and commiserate with Dan Rather the next morning. Then you can lament "If only
I voted about 3 or 4 more times for kerry, it might have made a difference." The democrat vote fraud machine should have known that it will take more than
a vote bid of one pack of cigarettes each to get enough homeless unregistered voters into the polls to deliver the election to kerry.

The good people of Portugal have so far
obviated the Dutch abortion ship from entering its waters. Of course the forces of old and evil "Old Europe" are whining to the EU.

It's been hot and sunny here for days. We can still swim, and that's good 'cause most of August we couldn't. Our new dog has discovered the flooded back yard and in her quest to catch a squirrel, she has tracked in mud at least twenty times a day on my white kitchen floor. So I am getting lots of exercise cleaning up after her romps.

When I have been out and about his name rarely comes up, but when it does people just roll their eyes...no one seems very concerned about his recovery here.
