Why should I trust FreeRepublic as my news source?

Posted on 09/13/2004 8:43:24 PM PDT by Joe Republc

I'm asking as a devil's advocate...

Why should I trust Free Republic?

If someone pokes around here, can one reasonably discern what is truth vs. rumor? Can someone recognize here partisan conservative hype vs. unreported truth not covered by MSM?

If Free Republic is reliable, how come? What's working here that is not working in media, or even other web sites?

I have some of my own ideas, but I'm stirring the pot here to get your thoughts. I've been a Freeper for a few years now, and this week has been startling in terms of my own realization of what news we can rely upon and why.

How could you not trust people named Big Bad Easter Bunny or Pukin Dog?

Good point!

Yours is an excellent question. I've seen things posted here that do not merit newsworthiness. There are places for that here. Somehow I have the sense to know. I trust my neighbor to understand the same. Skepticism is a virtue when it comes to reports from the outside. The internet provides an avenue to express skepticism IMMEDIATELY.

When Oldeconomybuyer placed the first post on 9/11 attacks he did more than my local radio station could do. Same with the Columbia disintegration. FR had it FIRST.

FR beats my local radio and news hands down every moment of every day.

FR = tomorrow's news today
OM = yesterday's news tomorrow.

FreeRepublic is a system. A Virtual Distributed news Truth Check. (VDNT) It is unmatched in it's capability or power.

Just watch how quick someone reporting other than the facts is corrected by the members. That includes news reported outside the confines of the FreeRepublic System.

Why should I trust FreeRepublic as my news source?

Because everything here gets vetted by a "bunch of amateur sleuths in pajamas." Just ask that a$$hole SeeBS producer, he'll tell you.

Oh, and Mr. CBS producer, could you ask this question of Mr. Rather, for me...What's the frequency Kenneth?

Each of us is an "expert" in something. Then we collaborate and fine tune what we know based on the input from other "experts." This is the great conversation, the town hall, and from this conversation certain truths sift through.

Articles are posted here from all sources, then discussed..TV programs are covered live and discussed...I have read things from all over the country and the world here, liberal to very conservative...

We discuss and dissect the news instead of reporting unless someone happens to be there and reports an event..

There are great researchers and archivists here who can put you straight if a source ,poster, or article gets a fact wrong...Need information? Someone can find it...Opinions?..We have plenty...differing and similar.

I visit other sources for opinions and articles...but Free Republic usually has most of the news posted.

It's actually more startling to me . . . the blatant, crass, brazen . . . control

of the so called press, media . . .

by . . . well . . . the puppet masters . . .

is the best label I've been able to come up with . . .

It's more startling to see how brazen they've become and how far down the road we are to complete control than it is to think of a SKERRY victory--as hideous as the latter is.

Prayers for our Republic and FOR FREE REPUBLIC at this point are crucial. Very crucial, imho.

Given all the givens so recently observable, it HAS TO BE only a matter of time until they start to squeeze out every dissenting voice.

Prayers can extend that time.

Why should I trust Free Republic?

Now why would one not trust such an erudite personage as this:

> If Free Republic is reliable, how come?

Because unlike some opposing sites, people are free to
refute errors/falsehoods/trolls with facts and politely
framed logical arguments.

On the other hand, don't use FR as your only source.
FR does cover a lot of the opposing propaganda (with
BARF, HURL and similar ALERT tags), but by no means
all. So do expose yourself to as much Pravda Press
as you can stand.

Think of Free Republic as a golfball (representing truth) stuck in the middle of a gallon jar of peanut butter (representing all opinion).

How do you get to the golfball?

Get rid of the peanut butter, right?

FRegards...

TOP TEN REASONS TO TRUST FREE REPUBLIC FOR NEWS...

10. On your 1,000th post, you'll get a Free Republic decoder ring that lets you finally understand all the posts relating to the new world order.

9. FR does all your cursing and ranting at Left-wing media and political scumbags for you so you have more time to get done those things you really need to do.

8. FR posts what the media reports, then FR reports the actual facts of the matter and finally, after the full facts are known, FR offers the correct opinions.

7. All known species of Leftist RATs despise this site, so you know it has to be good.

6. FR is the acknowledged prep work place for AM talk radio hosts and the lurking NYT, ABCNNBCBS, and lazy journalists across the nation.

5. FReepers disrupted a private conference call between Algore and his press sluts with accusations and sounds of toilets being flushed. They also chanted 'Get out of Cheny's house!' outside Blair house every day after the 2000 election and during the RAT attempt at a national coup. The FR actions finally drove Algore insane. You can see the bloated, shaggy remains of those successful FReeps today.

4. As civilized people, FR allows anyone to post here - even Lefties if they mind their manners. They do not, however, allow left-wing pissants free use of bandwidth to spray their idiocy like Clinton before a sink. Be civil, and you can stay.

3. Lefties do not elect to stay too often. Seems they cannot subvert things here, so they move on to softer targets like your kid's school or your church's seminary.

2. Dan Rather would have profited by coming here first before humiliating himself in front of the entire world as an ignorant and gullible fool. You don't have to make that same mistake.

And the number one reason....

1. Because FR doesn't mess around with teasing for the sake of ratings. We post pictures of nekkid women whenever we want.

It's not a "news source", it's an open library populated with thousands of debunkers and professionals of every stripe.

You wind up with no-BS, 100% pure information that is then enriched with added details from the various experts among the members.

Intelligent folks get addicted to this stuff and then can longer accept substitutes ;-)
