T O L E R A N C E. O R G A project of the Southern Poverty Law Center Sept. 9, 2004 *** GAY ACTIVISTS TO THROW ECONOMIC PUNCH *** Members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, queer and questioning community, along with their straight allies, will protest anti-LGBTQ policies -- including President Bush's stance against gay marriage -- in a one-day boycott of the U.S. The estimated cost is a cool $1.4 billion. http://newsletter.tolerance.org/cgi-bin4/DM/y/ejLu0FNuEK0E1S0Clh80AB *** REALITY SHOW "PROMISES" GREEN CARDS *** A new Spanish-language reality TV show is raffling off the American dream, offering contestants a chance to "win" an easy road to legal immigration status. Immigration advocates call the show "exploitation." http://newsletter.tolerance.org/cgi-bin4/DM/y/ejLu0FNuEK0E1S0CliA0AL *** UNIVERSAL THEME PARKS MOCK MENTAL ILLNESS *** Another storm is brewing in Florida, and this time, thankfully, it's not a hurricane. Universal Theme Parks is under attack from the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill for its October advertising campaign, which NAMI calls "insensitive and stigmatizing." http://newsletter.tolerance.org/cgi-bin4/DM/y/ejLu0FNuEK0E1S0CliB0AM *** WHEN THE KLAN COMES TO TOWN *** Activists in two small Maryland towns countered the Klan's plans to march with by staging their own pro-diversity events. In the end, tolerance activists outnumbered the Klan by 30-to-1 and sent a clear message that hate is not welcome in Washington County. :: Are you organizing against hate groups or hate crime? Get a grant! *** THE POLITICS OF POVERTY *** 34.6 million people in the United States in 2002 were recorded living below the official poverty line -- nearly 2 million more than in 2001 -- according to the latest data from the U.S. Census Bureau. A national coalition of churches and community groups is doing something about it. *** COLUMBINE: 5 YEARS LATER *** In an exclusive interview, Columbine principal Frank DeAngelis talks to "Teaching Tolerance" magazine about "having the weight of the world on [his] shoulders." -------------------------------- FORWARD THIS TO YOUR FRIENDS! -------------------------------- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - CONTACT US: Have some feedback on Tolerance.org or our newsletter? I'm having a hard time envisioning it....
They will just spend twice as much the next day
This is just a newsletter I get from Tolerance.org. I had asked to be removed, but they never have. Mostly it's just comic relief.
I'm pissed, I tell ya.
The only way to truly boycott the US is to LEAVE!!! Hopefully they can get some really cheap EU airline tickets.
We can probably pick up their 10-12 % by purchasing more on that day.
Economic punch- sounds kind of kinky, are we sure it isn't some new...Oh, never mind....
Exactly. It's like those gas boycotts that are pushed on here from time to time.
People will fill up the day before or the day after. Big deal.
