It seems the next thing worrying some Bush supporters are the upcoming debtes with Kerry - Hannity just mentioned that Kerry has a way to changet he subject and outright lie to make a point. What do you expect Team Bush will do to counter this?
Bush does well in a debate because it is essentially an interview. Bush thinks well on his feet, and defends his position well.
No doubt the Bush team will practice responses based on Kerry's catch phrases.
I wouldn't lose too much sleep over this. They really are not much of a debate anymore anyway, not in the traditional sense. Jim Leherer will probably allow more back and forth than most moderators but it will mostly just be the candidate with uniterrupted time to speak.
Being aware of this tactic of Kerry I'm sure that the Bush camp will have a strategy.
GWB will just tell the truth.
Just let Bush talk. He talks more like real Americans than does Kerry. Kerry preaches in a made-up phony accent like a drunk at the end of a bar that everyone ignores.
Stay on message. Be a gentleman. Have a few "there you go again" moments.
Maybe tell the audience at the appropriate moment: "The senator knows well that there is far more evidence tying Saddam to al Qaeda, than there is tying my administration to the Swift Boat Veterans."
That's all it would take.
In my opinion, Bush, when allowed to ask Kerry questions, should ask short, yes or no type questions. This way Kerry can't mold the question to fit his answer or grab a hold of part of the question he likes and run away with it. Short questions on issues like Iraq should be good for Bush because even if Kerry tries to maneuver around it, he will sound like he is obviously ducking a question. Bush should also use Kerry's own words(as in his flip flop on the Palestinian guard fence issue) so that he further points out the fact that Kerry talks out of both sides of his mouth, and force him to fess up to one of his statements being false in his honest opinion.
Ala Reagan, "Well... there you go again". (Did I get the accent correct?)
Bush has the advantage of not having to prepare for dozens of character questions or try to remember what his position on each issue is today.
My estimate is that Bush will be prepared with comebacks to Kerry's "switch and lie" strategy. At this point too, I don't see the debates as absolute yet, since the Kerry mob, now clearly under the control of the Clintoni family, may self-destruct even more with what appears to be a coming major lie and smear attack campaign..this is a good bet, since the liberal Dems have absolutely nothing else. My humble opinion is that if the Clinton's would have wanted Kerry to win, they would have just changed tactics entirely and addressed the issues in a "moderate" way.
But not so. Knowing how crooked the Clintons are, they are setting up Kerry for a major fall, if they proceed forward with a baseless, gutter-level system of lies and spin. That will finish Kerry if the American public is paying attention to the typical liberal Dem behavior. It could go alot of ways between now and November, but one thing for sure...the Clintoni mob DOES NOT WANT KERRY TO WIN!!!
Bank on it.... :-)
Use terms like:
Mr. Kerry has once again shown that he has more than one position on issues.
Was this before you voted for the war or after you voted against it?
My opponent's answer is reflective of his record in the senate. Sort of there but not really.
Mr. Kerry's refusal to answer questions about joining me in stopping the 527s is rather ironic when you look at the revolving door between his campaign and groups that have compared me to one of the biggest mass murderes in history.
Mr. Kerry still can't tell the American people how raising taxes is good for them.
My opponent's difficulty in answering the questions stems from the fact that he's got so many new and different people advising him on what to do.
President Bush isn't going to get into a he-said, she-said pissing match with Senator Kerry. GWB is simply going to state that supporting our troops isn't complicated, that we have to win the war on terror, that privatizing Social Security beats watching it go bankrupt, that school-choice scholarships for inner-city minority children are better alternatives than forcing the kids to stay in failing schools, that tax cuts are better for an economic recovery than tax hikes, etc.
If Senator Kerry goes into fantasy-land with ridiculous conspiracy theories about a war for oil or whatever, GWB is simply going to either take the high ground by absorbing the blow, or else he might mock Senator Kerry by pointing out that the line, jab, or other attack sounds like Michael Moore or some other contemporary radical.
You've already seen Senator Kerry debate during the Democratic primaries this year, so it isn't as though we're going up against a Jerry Brown, Scoop Jackson, or Zell miller.
4 Full Legislative Days Left Until The AWB Expires
Bush will obliterate Kerry in the debates. He will make Kerry look like the a-hole that he is... not that he needs help in that area.
What an awesome statement that would be.
I am looking forward to any debates.........Bush will be Bush.......Kerry will be Kerry.......not hard to guess who comes out a winner
