This is a serious thread, I am not joking about this issue. I was talking to a very respected surgeon earlier tonight, and that was their question to me. Columbia is a teaching hospital, the surgeons don't get as much experience, they have to also teach. Plus even among the City's teaching hosiptals, it's not the best. So why Columbia?
That is a good question, but it could be because this is a ruse to allow Bill and Hillary not to have to campaign for John Kerry as his campaign implodes.
As long as its not Jamaica hospital.
Yes, and maybe he does. There's still the nurses and the orderlies. The diversity check isn't finished until the whole health delivery system is audited.
The best hospitals in the country are teaching hospitals. Look them up. Whenever there's an article on how to choose the best hospital, it always recommended to use a teaching hospital. But you do want to avoid surgery in the fall at the beginning of the school year, if possible.
She's willing to risk it....
Did you hear Hillary try and politicize the slickster's heart problems at her press conference on Friday??
At the very end she said, "Thank God we are lucky enough to have affordable health insurance. Not everyone in this society is able to ...."
Or something along those lines. Then she turned and waddled into the hospital. I almost puked. She can't even put her money train hubby on the operating table without turning it into a political attack on the GOP.
Could have a point. This might be something totally different than a triple bipass.
Cocaine or Drug overdose? I know it sounds far fetched but these people do will lie about anything.
Per the USNews rankings, Columbia is not in the top 50 heart and heart surgery hospitals. On the other hand, given the patient in question, the choice - if it was her's - certainly does not call into question either the intelligence or ambition of the junior Senator from New York.
Nurses and orderlies don't count. If there's a group is under-represented, it's proof that there's discrimination. If there's over-representation, it's proof there's a GLASS CEILING. If they are precisely represented, it's proof there are quotas.
Of course SHE's got excellent health insurance. And I know she just feels the pain of those that don't. But a nationwide healthcare that would tax us into oblivion isn't the answer either. The minute you start mandating things be covered then the price goes up. It's Economics 201.
Well, don't look at Hillary for an answer. She needs one more good campaign out of the bent one before she puts him out to pasture with a lifetime supply of bimbos, burgers and his very own titty bar.
One report I heard was that they probably had him on a powerful blood thinner (Plavix) and it takes a few days to wear off.
Because they're too anti-Semitic to go to Beth Israel?
Some points:
1. There is nothing wrong with Columbia-Presbyterian. It is a good, no make that very good, hospital.
2. Why wait till Monday? There may be a host of reasons, among them:
- It does not seem that this is an emergency...if they are waiting until Monday, he is stable;
- Perhaps they are bringing in their own selected surgeon, and if so, I bet they're bringing in their own support staff too. This takes some coordination. Every heart program does not do things "the same". A heart team is a complex organization of individuals and processes, and familiarity with routine is sacrosanct.
- While the media is reporting that he did not, in fact, have a heart attack...maybe he did to some degree. If so, and if there is no ongoing ischemia, allowing the heart some time to "recover" from the insult before the surgery would be beneficial. A CABG in the acute stage of stunned myocardium after an MI is only done in emergent situations.
3. There are more issues too with regard to security, Physician and health-care provider screening, public relations etc...face it, this is a former POTUS were talking about here. There may even be family issues...who knows.
4. And, whoever mentioned that Clinton needs to be watchful to not contract meningitis while in the hospital, I hope they were kidding.
I just hope she never gets her hands on health care again!
Heart cases don't wait in the emergency room, even when they're without insurance. I have had heart surgery four times, I speak from experience. Some of those times, I had excellent insurance, and some times none at all, and no money to pay. All they care about with heart patients is keeping them alive, getting them stable, and getting them fixed up. They let the bean counters worry about collecting the fee.
Having chest pains? Going through a rough patch in life? Doesn't matter. America's medical system has always shown me it's best side. If I manage to die a millionaire, my inheritance is going to go to building a hospital for heart surgeons to learn in. I cannot say enough good about them.
Columbia has some of the best cardiac surgeons in the world and is among the finest hospitals anywhere.
