Why Doesn't The "World's Smartest Woman" Have Her Husband In A Better Hospital?

Posted on 09/03/2004 8:58:24 PM PDT by Doctor Raoul

This is a serious thread, I am not joking about this issue.

I was talking to a very respected surgeon earlier tonight, and that was their question to me.

Columbia is a teaching hospital, the surgeons don't get as much experience, they have to also teach. Plus even among the City's teaching hosiptals, it's not the best.

So why Columbia?

I was told that it's not the best for that in NYC. And within the teaching hospitals, Cornell is better. The comment to me is you want to go to the person who does this 5 times a day, not between classes.

Another question might be why would the Clintons turn to a religious affiliated hospital?

I guess if it was Columbia Unitarian Hospital, you could ask the Doctor, "What's wrong with me doc?" and the asnwer would be, "I don't know."

The best hospitals in the country are teaching hospitals.

If you've got some rare disease, but not for surgery. Practice, practice, practice.

Yeah, I suspected you are right. Presbyterian is probably more of a historic name having to do with who founded it than anything. I was somewhat kidding with my quest

~"I also have a serious question about this. As POTUS Clinton had the best medical care and I would think he'd have had various stress tests, PET scan, "Heart Check" etc, and if so, why were we always told he was in excellent health? Wouldn't a problem this severe have shown up 4-5 years ago?"~~

It it did show up, do you think he would have allowed to become known? I don't think so.

Point well taken. Remember the Wellstone "funeral" (campaign rally)? And Ronald Reagon's memorial service stirred the nation's patriotism and forged an indelible connection with our present conservative President. If anything happens to the ex-Pres., expect a State funeral broadcast of massive proportions with eulogies elevating him to sainthood and Kerry annointed as interim successor to his legacy until the Queen can ascend her throne.

As someone who used to drive ambulances in the New York area and deliver patients to many hospitals, including Columbia Pres, you are way off base here.

Columbia Presbyterian is one of the finest hospitals in the world, in just about any field. They are a teaching hospital because they have the best doctors there to teach the newbies. Clinton is not being treated by one of the interns or residents.

This one is a dry hole.

It's a good hosiptal, but not the best in NYC if you're having a bypass. That's from someone who I respect that's "been there and done that" in that hosiptal's operating rooms.

I'll admit, my time in "blances" was in the 70s, but what hospital is better in NYC? I don't doubt it. 30 years is more than enough time for Columbia Pres to have been displaced as the best in any field, but I'm curious, which one are you referring to?

I didn't have direct contact with their cardiac unit, though I did transport folks to their CICU and it was one of the first and clearly one of the best at the time. My main contact with them, other than delivering patients, was with the Eye Institute, as I have a condition called Kerataconus that has led to 3 corneal transplants (none done there). The founder of that Eye Institute was a neighbor and he and the people involved in that speciality at Columbia Pres helped me through the early days of my diagnosis (I was told I was going blind) and I KNOW that they are still one of the best in the world.

Overall, CP is nothing to sneeze at, even if some institution has surpassed them in one field or another.

It just shows you how much she values her former gravy-train-ride-to-the-top.

This is Hillary's payback time to Bill for messing around on her. He better check all his vitals as soon as he wakes up. Something might be missing, if it already isn't.

If she was the smartest woman in the world she would have known one of the best heart hospitals in the country was where she was when she heard the news, St Jospeh's in Syracuse. Oh, but its a Catholic hospital the does not perform abortions. Can't have anything to do with that!
