The Hobbit Hole XV - Pass them by! Pass them by!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Pass them by! Pass them by!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Do you know what a "day light" basement is?

Check to see if it has a door to the outside, or if it's a bulkhead. It must at least have lots of windows, so it won't be like a cave down there in the middle of the day.

I doesn't have pictures. Why do they call it a basement if it's not in the ground? Lot's of windows doesn't sound good for a tornado shelter/wine cellar. :)

My guess is that if the floor is halfway below grade, it can be called a basement. Our basement is a walk out, but only the area right at the back door is truly completely out of the ground. On the front, both sides and part of the back, it is almost totally below grade.

OB here, concur with the explanations posted above about the "daylight" basement. Could also refer to the size of the windows, placement ets.

Most all of ours are pretty good sized 20" high and 40" inches long. I replaced the old three pain glass windows with sliders. Built in screen. Have a total of seven windows. Pretty good light during the day.

Time for proud momma pics!

The girls were playing with sidewalk chalk on the front porch and enjoying the first sunshine we've had in days.

Everyone must be off enjoying the day. Well, I put my time in, now I'm going to have fun too!

I'm going to walk to a bookstore. It's such a gorgeous day here, I feel like walking to the mountains but that's a little impractical.
