The Hobbit Hole XV - Pass them by! Pass them by!
See our freeper.the-hobbit-hole.net home page! ^

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Pass them by! Pass them by!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Just got in from Latin. God bless ya, sis...you've a pip, I tell ya! I really appreciate you letting us use those supplies.

Matthew made a 100% on his first test. He got every answer exactly right except for one. The question was "What does a verb show?" and the answer was "Action". Matthew put "Action or a state of being."

I'm proud because for one thing, I'm not teaching him this...this is really out of my league. And every time I give him a 100%, I worry "Am I just biased? Is he really doing this good or am I just not seeing something?" But when he comes home from a class that someone else is teaching and is doing just as well, I must say...it's reassuring.

How about:

WRONG

MISTAKE

RUSHED

MISLEAD

DISCEIVED

Alas, since we don't drink we have "smooch" words instead. We got a lot of mileage out of "Salacious" during the Lewinski daze- that was when we first met. And "Gravitas" was our smooch word during the 2000 election when we were newly wed. But that's probably way more than y'all needed to know.

probably... put you still set a high standard and hold him accountable... so your bias does not impair your teaching...

Evenin' all...

just got back from a day at the range... took my homeschoolers from my Hunter Education class down to the state run range at the Bois D'Arc Conservation Area... it is an awesome facility... even better than Quantico... the had classes in rifle marksmanship and shotgun shooting...

they had and hour on the firing line with .22 rifles... and an hour and a half on the skeet range... most kids were busting clays before the end...

at one point, one of the instructors was asking questions on the parts of a firearm, operation, function of ammunition, etc... all the kids could answer the questions... then they showed a safety video... as we were walking out to the range he said "these are pretty sharp kids... they even paid attention to the video..." I responded "they're homeschooled..." he replied, "should've known..."

I'm really enjoying teachin' these kids... course, it is one of my favorite topics... firearms... ballistics... marksmanship... hunting techniques...

eatin' b-b-que venison ribs, fried taters fer supper...

then a stiff drink tuh watch the debates...

Mmmmm! Sounds delicious! I planned for Hamburger Helper before I found out Steve was coming home. The jedis love it. Wish I'd planned for better, now, but it's too late..

ribs were good, but nothin' special... they were leftover from last season... just threw them in the crockpot with a couple of bottles of cheap b-b-que sauce... but it was next to zero-effort...

I've always hadda soft spot fer Hamburger Helper... specially with a slice of American cheese meltin' on top...

Heh...I've already added that to my list of things-to-do-for-fun-once-I-have-some-discretionary-income...

I need a "Guns for Dummies" book or sumpin, though. I don't know nuffin about gauges, proper uses for different size guns, different brands...or anything at all.

I did find out my boss shoots at the local range. He may know answers to some of my questions.
