Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
...Pass them by! Pass them by!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Yeah, they ain't cheap. Apple makes all their money of hardware which is why they don't make an OX that will run on anyone hardware or on x86 chips. As for networking, they did some nonstandard stuff with their Samba implementation. The more recent security and OS patches have made it much more consistent with the windows implementation and supposedly the next version of OSX will make it even tighter with windows. Knowing how broad those kind of specs are written it does not suprise me at all that the did not jive on the first couple passes. If those machines don't have the latest updates or have not been setup right then they will not network very well.
At Anime Iowa I used an 5 year old mac with the latest OS to serve movie files to three PC and it was just about the only piece of the setup that worked smoothly. I was loading new files and deleting old one on the PCs(to save space) from the Mac while the PC's were playing movies.

...all the guys appear to have slept in today. elf-boy woke up at dark thirty for the second day in a row. Every ten or fifteen minutes until 7 am it was something different.
"Mom, that shadow of a rabbit is back and I can't sleep."
"Mom, can I sleep in here on the floor?"
"Mom, I'm hungry"
"Mom, I fed the fish."
"Mom, can I turn on the TV?"
"Mom, can I sleep with you and dad?"
"Mom, I have to go to the bathroom.
"Mom, do you remember when...(at this point I cannot remember anything)"
"Mom, I really want to watch T.V."

It's actually a shadow of a dragonfly hanging from his ceiling. It just *looks* alot like a rabbit in the middle of the night.

Ok. Got x, y, and part of z accomplised. Was unable to locate a computer to change it's IP settings. Waiting to here back from the TA for Parallel Programming - TAs! What a luxury! There's someone to help you with your programming assignments here.
Maybe I do have time for this machine setup today...

I'm so excited!! Steve got the Balfour pamphlet in the mail to order his class ring...the pamphlet they don't send out until you're close to graduating!!
We're not going to get the ring right now, of course, but still...it is just so exciting to get the pamphlet! I am seeing a glimmer of light at the end of this very long tunnel!
He will have just graduated when we meet for ShootMoot...
