Eleventh Thread: Wedding Edition: The Hobbit Hole XI - No One Admitted Except on Wedding Business!
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, |
Still round the corner there may wait |
Home is behind, the world ahead, |
Yes, I think the Castle will get wet.
It does have some elevation, though, so hopefully there will be some protection from surge.
Close to a full moon now, which exaggerates tides.
It's getting gusty outside, but nothing truly picture worthy.
Those poor folks in Stuart & Ft Pierce are gonna get clobbered by this thing. :-(
I can't help but feel relieved that we've managed to miss another one, Sam. And annoyed that yet another weekend has been ruined. But it pales in comparison to what those folks north of us are dealing with now and later...
Glad you guys are safe. Poor ksen! I think he's a hurrican magnet.
Yes, as bad as I feel for our northern neighbors, I can't tell you how happy I am to have gotten away with it again.
Something does seem to get cancelled every weekend due to hurricanes. We've all lost a lot of time to this, but I guess we're the lucky ones so far.
Good Evening - Looks like the far southern hobbits caught a break but the mid south one may not. Sort of good news and bad news.
Sam; can't really believe the looping track of that storm. Amazing.
Ksen -- stay safe.
Don't know about other 'Octoberfests' but ours is about 15 or so years old. Started out as one street and now four streets downtown are blocked off, a carnival, a beer tent, a food tent, and a some crafts and stuff.
The one event when you can walk around drinking a beer, as long as it is an official plastic 'Octoberfest' mug.
A few business people are charging for parking in their lots, but most aren't; the lack of care that many excercise when parking their new vehicles is amazing. Lots and lots of people.
There is an old tri motor (Ford most likely) taking people on air tours from our G/A field in town. They got FAA permission to fly low and slow over downtown, they were LOW. Really a cool old airplane.
Nothing much happening here, going out for donuts now. See you later :-)
Evening OT; LSA and I been a-gardenin today. Moving plants, redoing a raised bed and removing some others. Good Day for it.
Gypsy found the new bed to be just right for digging in, all that nice, soft black dirt and compost, she loved it. I think Gypsy thought she was helping us out, LSA said 'I don't think so'. :-)
Yeah, happy we are getting away with it once more down here at the end.
National Weather Service Melbourne just issued the following statement:
***extremely Destructive Winds... Capable To Destroying Weak Structures And Mobile Homes... And Damaging Even Well Built Structures Will Affect The Coastal Areas South Of Vero Beach Over The Next Few Hours. Trees Will Be Uprooted And Large Debris Will Become Airborne. It Is Time To Move Quickly To The Safest Interior Location Within Your Shelter And Plan To Remain In Place For Several Hours. Protect Yourself From Breaking Glass And Possible Structural Collapses With Mattresses.***
That old trimotor is almost old enough to be from bow and arrow days!
Lovely... hope ksen's ok...
I hope they are doing OK too, they should be, I imagine, though it's pretty scary being in a bad storm.
Hopefully we'll hear from him soon, although chances are good they won't have electricity to run a computer if he is getting pounded. Maybe he'll call Hair or someone on the cell if that is the case.
Using mattresses is good advice, IMO. In 92, I had my children in small interior closets, with their rollerblade helmets on and lots of pillows for sheilds. Met a neighbor next morning whose roof had blown off, the whole family had hid under the bed, holding on to it with all their might, until the winds subsided.
I have to admit, these things spook me.
~Will be glad when hurricane season is over~
Ecurbh playing the part of a gate in the background ;~D
Note the Bush/Cheney pin I'm wearing. ;~)
It looks like he's bullfighting, only with a horse!
Sigh... am feeling a bit down tonight. So I've been reading sweet and happy manga, making quiche, and spying on my new neighbor (a guy... mildly attractive and going to New Zealand in three months so if he turns out to be a jerk, I just have to stick it out)
*Sigh* I need a garden to putter around in.
Maybe it's a new hobby for Gypsy. She should have her own garden spot.
I think he might have felt a little like one with a big horse coming at him in that mood!
The neighbor thing sounds ~vey~ interesting!
You're BUSTED!
