The Hobbit Hole XV - Pass them by! Pass them by!

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

...Pass them by! Pass them by!

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

"Found this image on the Sky Captain website. I know I've seen tentacle-armed robots like this elsewhere, but I can't remember where!"

That picture reminds me of a robot I've seen before, but I can't put my finger on it. In the version I'm thinking of the robot looks like that but the eye is red rather than white.

Godzilla makes a cameo in the movie, too, huh? Okay, I'll have to see it :)

Ok! I've got literally hundreds of lines of code to write this afternoon... so for a movie, I've got "Dune" - the SF channel version of course! That should see me through hopefully at least two of my three assignments!

The Sci-Fi Channel version is... worth watching. The old movie version isn't. The SF channel put out a miniseries of Dune in 2000... it's not too bad, especially if what one wants is a dearly-loved story to keep company on a boring coding afternoon.

Oh, Duncan Idaho just kicked the bucket... and my code won't compile...

I may be one of only a few who like the Dino de Laurentis version of Dune back in the 80's. I liked the Art Deco look of the interiors. I especially like the floating lights that looked like ancient oil lamps. Linda Hunt as the Shadout (sp?) Mapes was suitably mysterious, and Jurgen Prochnow as Duke Atreides was yum, though I thought Sting in the funky Speedo was just stupid.

Yeah, well, maybe in the 80s... but I read Dune when I was 13, and even then the Dune movie was cheesy.

Ha! One assignment submitted. Now. What's going on with this one...

I liked that movie pretty well, thought it was better than the book, which is not my favorite, somehow.

Commander Picard was in it for one thing.

I love the book... it's one of my top ten ever.

ARGH. My program would work if the data would behave responsibly!
